I simultaneously think this is pretty neat and will also never touch it with a ten-foot pole
when microsoft announced at e3 a few years ago about expanding the xbox platform to win 10 with play anywhere and cross-platform i knew they were playing the long game for this. this will let xbox dominate massively in the field if executed properly. They have the size and money flow to do this.
Xbox can seriously kick Sony's ass next gen if they fully perfect their cross-platform, play anywhere + game pass schtick. They just now need to get the games to make it worthwhile.
Imagine Xbox Live replacing the NSO... In all seriousness, Microsoft really stepped up their game over the last 2 years, gotta say, I am very happy with them. Maybe next gen I'll get an Xbox, purely for Backwards Compatibility alone.
I hope everybody is ready for; Halo: Dissapointing again Forza Some Moreza Forza: Horizon (can be seen from this stack of cash) And maybe if they're feeling generous, Gears of More. Microsoft in the last few years really haven't had a very impressive first party or exclusive library outside of one or two games. I don't know how they've not solved this problem yet. It doesn't really offer much in terms of getting people who aren't already in the XBox Live ecosystem onto their platform.
Let's hope all those studios they have bought will help them during next gen. Current gen is dissapointing in terms of exclusive games on xbox.
except Microsoft is buying developers by the pile, plus they’re not imposing release timelines. This is generation is done for MS, they’re playing the long game now. Plus, any games they develop for Xbox One/X will run on their next box (with the X enhanced versions as a baseline)
We were saying this about Sony near the end of the PS3 as well. This fucking cycle is driving me insane.
