The real offense imo is Gucci selling this for for almost $1k when it looks like a couple wanted kink clothing but didnt have proper lingerie so they cut a hole in a big sock.
100% total accident not engineered for specifically this publicity event no sir
whats up with those big fucking 80s glasses
Honestly a lot of times with these sorts of Fashion Debacles I'm just like "it COULD be construed that way but.." but uhh.. the bright red lips? I.. took one look at that and was like "Holy shit".
Okay so the ski mask I understand, it's cold and fashionable nowadays.
But the RED LIPS? It's so blatant its like nobody over there even looked at the product before putting it out
lips are red though?
It does look reminiscent of an old timey racist caricature but I don't see how a black jumper with red lips is racist.
I'm so glad they pulled it cause HOT DAMN that's one ugly fucking jumper.
I know its the fashion world and the fashion world can be extremely odd but...
what the fuck is that
"Blanton blackface"
Also, I'm completely unsurprised that an Italian high fashion designer didn't realize that it looked like something that's very localized to the US in terms of significance.
Damn, really? This thing was the height of fashion here in Virginia.

"If it LOOKS racist, it IS racist" is getting really fucking annoying
But are we saying red lips alongside black is inherently racist? Because I reject that. That said it is liable to be misconstrued when there is no ill intent so it's probably not worth the headache.
of course nobody is saying that those two traits are racist. However considering the context of american racism in popular culture, blackface depictions typically reinforce those two aspects.
You're completely right in saying there was no ill intent. I think the most optimistic and probable is that blackface has become so much less prevalent that somebody at gucci saw it as a cool, trendy design instead of seeing the historical context behind it.
Yeah, I'm really upset I can't buy this ugly-ass jumper now.
If you're going to push your products in a foreign market, it might be a good idea to have somebody on hand who is capable of pointing out when you're about to push a bad idea.
Maybe if the jumper or lips were a different color or shade but uhh
