Cottam, one of UK's last coal power stations to close

A coal-fired power station in Nottinghamshire is set to close, leaving hundreds of jobs at risk, its owners confirmed.
EDF Energy said the power station in Cottam would shut on 30 September because of "challenging market conditions".
Mike MacDonald, from the union Prospect, said it was a "huge blow to workers" and local people.
With 300 jobs at risk, unions said the news was not a shock but "premature".

Good riddance. Now we just need to find some jobs for the displaced plant workers.
Good. Coal needs to die. Even natural gas plants are far better than them, but as always renewable or nuclear power plants would be better and in the long run likely cheaper.
My dad was lucky to find one at Diageo, but he doesn't seem to enjoy the amount of stress it brings and is looking for somewhere else.
He does seem to feel a good bit of spite for the reason it was shut down, with his argument being that many other countries are the main source of greenhouse gasses, and coal plants shouldn't have been shut till they agreed they were going to abolish theirs as well. I can't say I blame him for his position, even though I still support them being shut down.
What happens to the smoke stacks and cooling towers when it is shut down? I see these ones all the time, it'll be weird if they're gone.
