• Postie bikes to make way for e-trikes in Australia

The sound of the local postie bike coming up the street will give way to whirl of a electric trike as Australia Post rolls out its new mail delivery vehicles. Australia Post said the new electronic delivery vehicles (eDVs) had more sun protection and carrying capacity, and would keep posties safer from swooping magpies. Mitch Buxton, the general manager of network optimisation for Australia Post, said people would start to see more of these types of vehicles coming out to deliver to houses. "Our postie bikes in the past have been great workhorses, but they are limited in what they can carry," he said. "It [the wave of new trikes] means there's a place for a postie many years into the future." https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/226043/607e6b6e-bb5f-4d62-a775-7fe6b482cafd/C56A3149-C1A1-4251-A205-45BC2BF9CE06.jpeg 50 years of postie bikes  Honda C110x are the most common delivery bikes, rolled out by Australia Post in 2018.  The bikes are only available to Australia Post contractors, meaning only used bikes are able to be bought by the general public.  They have a modified seat area and exhaust to typical two-stroke motorbikes, modifications experts say are in place to improve postie comfort. Australia Post first introduced motorbikes to their delivery fleet in the 1970s, with the Honda CT90.  With the new e-trikes, Australia Post has also ordered a new fleet of 4,000 electric pushbikes. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-02-09/postie-bikes-make-way-for-e-trikes/10793136 I have seen a few of these rolled out around my workplace; they look like adorable little tuk-tuks, haha.
A trike makes too much sense as a delivery vehicle, papers are so fucking awkward to balance on 2 wheels
Aw, posties won't be doing sick curb jumps on the bikes anymore.
Our town hosts a postie bike grand prix every year, would be a shame to see that go
Posties around here have been using the trikes for a while; bastards are quiet though. You generally hear the choir of neighbourhood dogs in lieu of the 20cc thing they called motorbikes.
some areas still use pushbikes. Mostly inner city.
It makes a lot of sense, especially since two strokes pollute a lot more. Not like postie bikes would contribute a lot but regardless. Just the only thing that could be a concern is how quiet they'd be, a lot of dumb cunts walk around blind corners at full walking speed without giving a shit of what might be around it. With postie bikes you could always hear if one was around the corner, even if you're listening to music.
As much as I'm for electrifying everything, this is one area where it's going to be a shame to lose the noise. Postie bikes make such a distinct noise it's a great indicator that you've got mail without having to walk all the way down to the mailbox to check. Also I don't see those trikes working very well around here, if you can't go offroad with them you're going to have to get off the trike and leave it in the road or driveway to get to many mailboxes.
I had to look up swooping magpies https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/238785/e341ba16-2295-4c64-b9d8-b1aaa28cd9c0/image.png What the fuck Australia? We have magpies but they're just these chill lil birbs, they don't divebomb you https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/238785/e2f7dac2-b6fc-4220-897c-e3c9aac809c9/image.png
Australian magpies are deadset cunts. You can’t have lunch outside without them trying to fuck your shit up. This meme makes the rounds on Australian social media every year: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/226043/798fe014-a256-4f46-b20a-ba2408d2b103/7CF5A23F-4DEB-4CD3-B3BB-98BDE6AAB4FE.jpeg
Damn, now used postie bikes are gonna be even more expensive Used to be able to snag them for a couple hundred dollars and now people are already asking 2 grand for an entry level 110cc bike that's already been flogged by posties. Once the supply starts dwindling, I bet you'll have people selling them for brand new Honda Grom money
I wish we used something like that despite being impractical due to the massive amounts of mail we have to deliver.
