Even in sports-mad Australia, there is such a thing as too much sport

There was a time when summer sport in Australia was all about the cricket, with a bit of tennis and golf thrown in for variety.
Those days are long gone.
There is no busier time in one of the world's most competitive sporting markets than right now thanks to the proliferation of summer competitions, the growth of women's sport and the ever-expanding football seasons.
Men's and women's competitions are all running concurrently in cricket, football and basketball.
The AFLW competition has already begun, while men's and women's rugby union will start in the coming weeks. All this on top of the summer's big international sports: cricket and the Australian Open Tennis.
Yet this season, cricket — in all its forms — has been hit particularly hard both in terms of live crowds and viewing figures.

Rugby league, rugby union, football, Aussie rules football, cricket, tennis, and all of those at different levels... there is a glut of sports in Australia. And that doesn’t even include racing nor motorsports.
Damn, I don't care what's playing. If the day's nice and the tickets are dirt cheap I would totally picnic in an empty stadium watching people sports the ball.
Yoink, I'm stealing "sports the ball", thanks. But, also, yeah I would definitely do the same, though that's more because nice days in the UK around this time are less likely to be a reality than the Loch Ness Monster.
But that’s exactly the problem. If venues are to continue remaining empty, then that will lead to some codes necessarily shutting down, as they would otherwise run at a loss.
That probably needs to happen, but if it’s not carefully managed it could lead to more shutting down than is required. One thing that is mentioned from time to time is unifying rugby league and rugby union, but it will probably never happen.
I got it from misremembering this comic.
Yeah I know, it was more a kind of "let's make the best out of the situation" idea considering I'd usually never consider go watching any game in a stadium normally.
