“They are already defeated,” Guaidó said, calling another round of nationwide demonstrations for next Tuesday. “Today, our only enemy is despair. Today, our only enemy is doubt. Today, our only enemy is fear.
“We will keep going until we achieve our objective,” vowed the 35-year-old politician who is now recognized by more than 40 countries including the United States, Canada, Brazil, Britain, France and Germany. “Each day they are more alone and isolated,” Guaidó said of Maduro’s administration. “And each day more people join our cause.”
Juan Andrés Mejía, a close Guaidó ally, told the Guardian: “We are trying pretty hard to make people understand that even though we want it to be very soon – and it could be – we don’t know for sure. It could take weeks, maybe months. We have to be prepared and organised for that.”
I have a feeling that "Today, our only enemy is despair. Today, our only enemy is doubt. Today, our only enemy is fear" is a quote that will float around for a substantial amount of time. Don't underestimate the power of threes, man.
Godspeed you magnificent bastard. Kick that dictator off his slimey throne.
He's backed by the original National Assembly (de facto legislature) which was stripped of its power in 2017 by pro-Maduro judges. The decision was reversed later due to international pressure, then new elections for it were held but boycotted by the opposition, with international observers mentioning that there were signs the results were also manipulated by the government. So basically you have the old anti-maduro National Assembly and the new pro-maduro National Assembly. Guess which one of them declared Maduro to be illegitimate? Overall, while there is extreme external pressure for Maduro to resign it seems like there is also solid case to be made that, being backed by the original National Assembly, Guaido should truly be considered interim president by the laws of Venezuela.
This guy reminds me a bit of Obama
I know it's kind of pedantic, but I'm a little bothered by the fact that he described three distinct and separate things as "our only enemy".
Probably sounds better in Spanish
Good point. I hadn't considered that.
