The end goal is for Russian authorities to implement a web traffic filtering system like China's Great
Firewall, but also have a fully working country-wide intranet in case the country needs to disconnect.
Hopefully they stay down
"but also have a fully working country-wide intranet in case the country needs to disconnect"
I'm sure gonna fire up and play Dota whenever this happens.
Valve should sell this as an event.
Suddenly, billions play dota 2
And the dash cam footage
Russians are down, quick post putin memes
🦀🦀🦀
I'd be surprised if US/UK don't have a similar system already.
Well, russians always have been giant buttsluts for the big dick of authority haven't they.
Wow, they're really getting desperate in their attempts to try and take down Telegram.
Doubtful, the Silicon Valley magnates would hang them by the balls
If we're talking about a national security issue so severe we're having to disconnect the internet I don't think it matters what Jeff Bezos says.
cant wait, please continue to be disconnected

Haha I live there
please someone make it stop
What kind of national security issue would need that? All I see this ever being used for is to crack down on dissent.
Russia disconnects from the internet, in other news millions of Russian youth begin armed march towards the Kremlin
In other news, CS:GO playercount expected to drop by 97%.
I wonder how much money is going to be pocketed on this intranet project lol
"I understand that you are all upset about the possibility of other countries intefering with our elections, so for the good of this Great Nation I have pushed for an American Only Internet."
"Let's Make the Internet Great Again"
And then in a flash, the sound of countless sukas and blyats was silenced.
Also Facepunch could not have chosen a funnier article to start shaking on.
"Being able to independently maintain critical infrastructure such as financial services, CS:GO servers and emergency communications remain a key priority" said Aleksandr Zharov, chief of Roskomnadzor.
The demonstration was concluded by Mr Putin playing a round of arms race against a team of military personnel in Sevastopol, routed entirely through network nodes in Russia.
you know, cheap space based internet can't filter down quick enough, spacex take my moneys to get russians internet.
Well my original point was I doubt the UK or US don't have kill switches either, and if it's not public knowledge it's most likely implement behind closed doors.
Considering someone presumably has to go to all of the big data centers around the country and get them to comply, and Bezos has a direct stake in an obscene number of those data centers (as well as generally being incredibly influential in the tech world), he'd probably have a sizeable effect on how something like that plays out
But like, how do you even do this if the country wasn't set up centrally in the first place like China? It feels like the scope of things to do and verify would be so massive that it'd be almost impossible to know where to begin
This will be crazy.
Of all the games I play a good many have a large Russian presence. What will CS and Dota be like? Heck, even my favored Runescape might be affected.
Another curiosity is how games like Survarium, which I believe are developed in Russia, will be affected.
Sure as shit people in EVE are gonna take advantage of this.
As far as I know this article is describing a killswitch for the internet, ie, turning the country into an intranet. So you only need to install it on the egress points, fibre optic cables/satellite links etc.
hacking worldwide decreases by 99% bringing harmony to the internet for the first time ever
Hate to break it to you, but China is one of the #1 sources for global hacking events, the US is in second and some other countries trail behind the U.S. Russia on the grand scheme of things is noted to be responsible for 5% of global cyberattacks. There are some other countries that are less than 5%, but china and the US are responsible for the most cyber attacks.
Whenever I need to download something that has no official download links left and no amount of seeds, I just need to wait for an hour or two and a Russian will notice and start seeding it for me. I don't want them to go.
