https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsTylbn74aQ&app=desktop I don't know the full story but it does like he seems genuine about his emotions.
dude's been the subject of several sexual assault allegations about a decade now, mostly involving (but not limited to) the groping and kissing of underage fans at conventions, and has a pretty dedicated fanbase that's been fighting back for just as long to keep accusers silent. at the start of the year, there was a more organized movement "#kickvic" to get the attention of studios that employ him, which included stories from a few professional voice workers as well. since then, he's been taken off most convention guest lists and removed from many voice acting roles. when i first saw allegations in 2011, they were always accompanied with "yeah, this is nothing new".
The full story is...a lot. Like, a lot of evidence of Vic being well-beyond creepy to fans and hostile and aggressive to con staffers, among other things. If you want to investigate it, this is a good megathread compiling threads and statements. https://www.reddit.com/r/Animedubs/comments/anvthm/vic_mignogna_controversy_and_allegations_news_and/?sort=top Further extensive evidence can be found here in a Google Doc: kickvic To me, the most convincing aspect of these allegations is all the support coming from fellow co-workers in the industry and people who have networked with Vic over the years in the business. From how I hear it, his 'apology' here is just reading from the same playbook that other people in power reach for when allegations begin to pile up. "I'm sorry if I offended you" is neither honest nor respectful and should never be accepted as an apology. And the emotion displayed here is easy to achieve when you start to think about how every wrong thing you thought you could get away with is being brought against you and your career is now at stake.
This bothers me so much with all of these public apologies. When you apologize, you must explain what it is that you did wrong and why it was offensive. Then at least promise to not do so again and preferably explain how you're going to avoid offending again. Like, even if you're being 100% dishonest, the apology is just pointless mouth noises unless it contains at least one of these three things.
Yeah, just a couple of weeks ago he was listed as a special guest at a convention I'm going to later this month. Just checked though and he is no longer listed.
Not to be all armchair-psychoanalyst here but https://media.giphy.com/media/5vYkdkEPZpXg5wO7ES/giphy.gif This whole feels like such cliche acting, I can't shake it. He's so animated.
He's pulled from this weekend's convention too. Yeesh. It's going to feel really awkward watching FMA again.
I've always noticed that when people try to look like they're about to cry they make it very obvious they're going to. Most people who legitimately try to hold back tears usually lock up since they're trying to focus on crying and I don't think anyone wants people to actually see them cry so they'll try to hide their face or take a minute to regain their composure. It looks like he's actively trying to cry instead of trying not too. But armchair psychoanalyst like you said and all that.
