"The final, impossible goal of capitalism is to provide nothing, employ nobody and make all the money."
The video me curious about the future, what happens when there is a severe shortage of work due to automation?
Universal basic income? A bigger gap between the poor and rich that eventually leads to some kind of conflict?
War, war never changes.
Cyberpunk future isn't used a future model out of laziness. Take a look at Golden Crescent countries and China and India. That's pretty much what everything will be like except no middle class.
The impoverished will be left to rot while the wealthy grow fat in their ivory towers. Conflict will be made difficult by the superior firepower wielded by those with the money to pay for defence/security.
I fucking hate the future.
I can already see the then Ivory Tower class's media engine using the crime occurring in the underclasses slums to further divide the "us vs them" -mentality and then every now and then send kill squads to do a bit of "policing".
Best summary of the current state of the video game industry, and capitalism in general. Absolutely appalling.
Dude, our reality is not the Imperium of Man, ok?
At least in the Imperium of Man a man who has nothing can still have faith and expect it to do something. Our reality is unfortunately far closer to the hellhole that is Deus Ex.
Publishers need to go away completely as devs become much less dependent on them
when is the crash and do-over happening?
Coming soon near you: ECONOMIC CRISIS(TM)(C)
"But..." You ask yourself "I thought we had a perfectly working system of wealth distribution!"
We do!
"But why are there crises every 5 or so years?"
Human nature.
I depise how the future is turning out with a fury passion.
If giant companies could have their way, they would use automated bots to make games rather than actually paying people.
Publishers are still kind of important, funding and marketing solutions are always in demand. The industry needs to stop flaunting its growth and attracting profiteers.
Problem is though that most publishers aren't really that good with the marketting, they mainly have bloated marketting budgets that manage to eclipse the bloated development costs.
Dev teams are tasked with creating the biggest bestest annual best-seller which then marketted globally on mainstream media platforms to make everyone acknowledge the game and generate enough FOMO to ship copies. When I'd reckon there'd be a lot more stable profit to be made with a platform to couple people with the types of games that they like, rather than the social engineering mass marketting approach.
Dead Space 3 is a perfect example.
When Dead Space 2 underperformed in sales, EA doubled down on Dead Space 3.
Instead of scaling back to deliver a consise singleplayer campaign to wrap up a trilogy; it just had to instead try to become even bigger and compromise itself to attract people outside the survival horror fandom with some fucking cover shooting, co-op and a near 20 hour campaign.
This is laughable; it'd be a novelty at first and then you realize the designs are all samey because the programmers were to lazy to give the systems some originality.
However; this hell isn't just for Videogames. Imagine novels, music, art and more being autogenerated based on centuries of human work and data. Imagine, as a writer, trying to compete with 3 Ray Bradbury novels or 3 Stephen King Novels being released hourly.
Imagine being a muscisian in a world where people prefer the repetitious auto generated music that's already being made now. Because we already have that happening. We're staring at the death of culture and growth because we'll automate it out of our hands.
