Damn, didn't know Terry Crews actually got mocked like that by some people after telling about his sexual assault. This is a really good video. I won't lie some of the examples he shown here I have chuckled in the past (and some I didn't know are just straight up awful), but overall it really does put into perspective how prevalent these type of jokes are to the point it becomes disturbingly normalized. While I believe comedy can cover any topic and make light of them, sexual assault jokes definitely has reached that level where at best it's a crutch for a cheap laugh, and at worst is a very tactless and harmful idea that warps the perspective in society, making people dismissive of a serious issue and apply double standards on persons.
I agree with the video on the one exception of the Always Sunny examples - the comedy from that show is derived from how truly reprehensible the characters are as people. The laugh there isn't at the expense of male rape - but how horrible and offensive Frank manages to be. The show very clearly defines the behavior of their characters as something that is terrible and not to be repeated.
The mask and juggernaut examples didn't make much sense to me. Simply having something shoved up your ass as a joke doesn't inherently make it sexual.
While the political correctness is strong, I do agree that rape jokes against masculinity is somewhat common and pervasive. It's like... victimizing is an accepted form of punishment and mockery.
I have laughed at some of these jokes, and while I may not agree to it all, the video itself is fascinating and made a lot of good points about how the establishment of this joke and made me question a lot of how we deal with these topics. IDK, I think i really liked how it handled the topic.
Can't believe I've watched a 30 minutes video from Jonathan Mcintosh and agreed with every part of it.
