Way better than being owned by Koch but still afar cry of being the indie dudes they wanted to be.
Hell yes. THQ Nordic is one of the only publishers in the industry that I can say is a good influence, and I'm playing through KCD right now for the first time, finding it to be one of the most immersive RPGs since the early Bethesda titles, yet having the depth of a proper CRPG. These two together can only mean good things.
Saying this while the metro thing is going on is kinda hilarious.
Metro is currently being published by Deep Silver, THQ was forced to auction the franchise.
Hopefully this doesn't affect the sequel, KCD is one of my most favorite games of all time
Deep Silver/Koch Media are currently owned by THQ Nordic AB.
Deep Silver/Koch media were acquired by THQ, but they've been allow to continue to operate as they were before, they're sister companies. They're still pretty much a separate entity, so their decisions can't really be attributed to THQ as well.
THQ Nordic AB is the holding company that owns both THQ Nordic and Deep Silver/Koch. That being said, the THQ Nordic that acquired the company is the THQ Nordic AB, meaning they are not under the THQ Nordic GmbH group that owns stuff like Darksiders etc. (The difference between the names is kinda spelled out here: http://www.thqnordic-investors.com/en/news/?releaseId=3190360) That being said, the Epic Games decision was completely by Deep Silver/ Koch, but AB did say they were fine with it. I wouldn't expect a lot of changes out of this store wise unless Epic themselves go to the devs and 'sweet talk' them into their store.
It literally says subsidiary in the OP
They're operated independently, it was Deep Silvers decision with Metro: Exodus. Gamasutra News THQ Nordic AB (publ) is the Swedish parent company listed on the Stockholm Stock exchange that owns three independently operating sub-groups; The publisher and distributor Koch Media including their premium publishing label, Deep Silver, who owns the Metro, Dead Island, Saints Row and TimeSplitters IPs (amongst others) The publisher THQ Nordic GmbH who owns Darksiders, Titan Quest, Wreckfest, MX vs ATV IPs (amongst others). The publisher and developer Coffee Stain who owns the Goat Simulator IP (amongst others).  Lars Wingefors, co-founder and group CEO of THQ Nordic AB (publ), commented:  “I fully support our sub-groups’ autonomy to run their respective businesses.
Was Kingdom Come Deliverance any good? I don't think I've seen anyone play beyond the first hour or so of it
It's great, albeit a bit quirky. Far surpasses most open-world RPGs of the past 10 years.
It has its jank but in the same way STALKER has it, it's charming and any game breaking bugs got patched out soon after release. You can feel the passion and love that was put into it. I won't lie I did actually start dozing off in the first hour or so but that's because I was expecting something different, once I got into the right mindset it definitely immersed me. The leveling being based on gear also makes it so that mid game becomes a cake walk once you get your hands on plate armor and virtually nothing short of 3+ enemies at once can harm you but the learning curve on combat is a fresh change of pace along with the in depth gear system. The story has a nice charm to it so overall it's a good game and personally one of my favorites
It's really good. At launch there were a few silly bugs, but right now it's a very solid game.
This THQ isn't that THQ
That's not THQ Nordic though, that was Koch Media who is owned by them. THQ Nordic actually put out a very passive aggressive statement about what Koch media did, pissed they did it. Sure they could intervene and force Koch to revert the decision, but that's not how Nordic operates with it's independently run studios.
deep silver is owned by THQ nordic now lmao Agents of Mayhem was such a monumental flop that it devalued Deep Silver's parent Koch so much that THQ nordic bought Koch. They've owned the IP for all of Deep Silver since around this time last year THQ Nordic Acquires Koch Media and Deep Silver
THQ GmBH released a passive aggresive statement about that but THQ AB, the parent of THQ GmBH, released another statement supporting that decision.
What does this talk about the Epic Store even matter? It's not like KC:D is gonna be pulled from Steam and go onto the Epic Store, especially since THQ Nordic has probably already heard the outcries and doesn't want to make that situation worse. Honestly, outside of Devolver Digital (which could probably never hope to fund games on the massive scope that Warhorse would make), I can't really think of a better publisher to pick these guys up. I'd rather them be picked up by THQ Nordic than the likes of EA or Activision, and while Ubisoft maybe wouldn't be a bad choice, I'd rather not have their future games ship with Uplay required.
It's fucking great. I'd mostly stopped caring about open-world RPGs over the years, but this game is a shining example that there's still plenty of interesting stuff that can be done with the genre. I'm 90 hours into my first playthrough and I'm still not near the end, I've spent so much time getting lost in the world and enjoying the sidequests. It has a lot of technical jank, but the superbly designed gameplay and the depth of all the systems more than makes up for that. The quest design is really elaborate too, there's typically a bunch of different ways to approach any problem with optional sub-objectives and often even different endings depending on the choices you've made. Really a big step above your typical RPG.
It's literally drunk Skyrim with actual working combat
One of my favourite games in recent memory. The world is genuinely engrossing(gave me the same sense of scale and awe as Oblivion had way back when), and the combat is surprisingly intuitive despite its complexity. The game itself is pretty intimidating however in terms of the sheer amount of mechanics to remember, and due to that same sense of scale, so after taking a short break from it I have yet to get back into since I feel completely lost. If you're going to play it, I recommend playing it until completion or else you'll face the same issue.
I never finished the main quest because I got side tracked in learning to read and becoming a master alchemist/botanist. Make of that what you will.
