The climate disaster future has arrived while those in power laugh at us A brilliant opinion piece, recommend the full read. “This is coal,” Morrison began babbling. “Don’t be afraid don’t be scared won’t hurt you won’t hurt you.” He waved the piece of coal around like it was the sacred Host itself, he swung it high and he brought it so low that for a moment it was as if a wildly guffawing Barnaby Joyce seated next to him might lick it. How they laughed! The ranks of the Liberal party assembled around and behind, how they all laughed and laughed that day. What has become clear over these last four weeks across this vast, beautiful land of Australia is that a way of life is on the edge of vanishing. Australian summers, once a time of innocent pleasure, now are to be feared, to be anticipated not with joy but with dread, a time of discomfort, distress and, for some, fear that lasts not a day or a night but weeks and months. Power grids collapse, dying rivers vomit huge fish kills, while in the north, in Townsville, there are unprecedented floods, and in the south heat so extreme it pushes at the very edge of liveability has become everyday.
I wouldn't really call it an opinion peace cause this shit is happening right now.
Nah, he's right, Coal won't kill us, the fuckers who use it will. Also I never knew how awful things were until yesterday a bushfire around north of my general area started (around 40 mins away), it's already burnt 15km. And ANOTHER bushfire, fucking west of us, started earlier today. It's not like small towns are burning or anything. It's possible one was deliberate but surely if these fuckers weren't in charge and we had a hold over Climate Change earlier, it wouldn't have been so god damn severe that it is atm.
I wish I could lob that lump of coal at his head. Or set the lump on fire in the middle of parliament, and see how they react. Because guns are safe when you're just holding on to them too. That doesn't mean they aren't dangerous when they're, you know, used.
You would think after Australia's ozone hole thing the powers that be would be more responsive to the environment. But I guess it's not profitable so fuck it.
Between California's fire, Australia's heat wave, and the midwest's polar vortex, climate change has both a price tag and body count. And that's just the past few months.
Uh, ozone holes happen for a variety of reasons. This is a common misconception. Global warming actually causes more ozone to be produced.
Can I get a source on this?
The ozone layer crisis was unrelated to global warming. It was caused by widespread use of aerosols.
And that is why I said the environment and not "climate change".
