link between worlds was my first top down zelda and i absolutely loved it, cant wait for this one
The artstyle looks like trash, it reminds me of Mario vs Donkey Kong with the fuckin wind up marios
I kinda like the weird toylike artstyle after initially hating it do death for a whole minute.
Its funny how they used actual goomba models instead of making a zelda version.
Reminds me of the Rankin/Bass claymation Christmas movies a bit. I remember getting this bundled with my Game Boy Pocket.
hope they ditch those vaseline borders for the outdoors areas cause they look like shiiiiit also link sounds like toad when he does a charged attacked
its so fucking cute its sooo fucking cute aaaa
Can't wait to see this remade https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GKSy81v_kw
Artstyle is fine, but I'm not sold on the minimalistic Epic Yarn music.
It ends up being the most gruesome and violently depicted murder ever depicted in a video game
It looks like a Mother game
Tal Tal HEIGHTS

Dangling that 2D cutscene in front of me and then tearing it away for the toy aesthetic is just cruel.
If you knew the story of the game it kind of make sense if they use the 2d animation for the intro and end.
Then why reply for, If you don't like how this is going?
I understand the justification for it and the art style, I love LA and 2D-wise it has my favourite gameplay and art style. I also understand why they would want to translate this as 1:1 as they can, to the point that the screens fill roughly the same space as the original, using the toy aesthetic as their excuse for the tile-based graphics. But if you gave me the choice between "replicate the original graphics in 3d with a plasticky toy-like/clay aesthetic" or "fully rebuilt 2D or 3D art based on the promotional art or this cutscene" I'd dump the art style we got in the trash without even thinking.
That lead me to suspect that they retooled the BotW prototype for this, although it could just be their new permanent logo.
Okay I am really tired of Nintendo trying to make these remakes look completely uniform. First the Mario and Luigi games and now Zelda. I understand that remaking Link's awakening in the Link between worlds engine (I presume?) is both faster and easier, but that does not mean I have to like it. Personally I see no point in buying this. and unlike the Mario and Luigi remakes this is not really a game you can add a bonus story to either.
they couldn't have picked a better one to remake tbh. the oracle games were good but links awakening is all around a better game.
But both Link Between Worlds and Link's Awakening are direct sequels to the same game, to the point that Link's Awakening may have originally been intended to be a port before ultimately getting a life of its own. The heads of the series have declared that open world is still the route to go for the future thanks to Breath of the Wild's success, and using LBtW's engine and sprucing it up for HD is.. well, not only an upgrade on the original LA's gameplay, but fundamentally sound and logical due to the association the games have by technicality. Both games were even originally handheld titles, and this remake is coming to a handheld console. I'd say this is less uniform than you think, too, given how distinct the game looks visually compared to any other Zelda game in the entire series, even the original it's based off of.
I'm still not sure how to feel about the presentation and art style of this game, the little diorama look is cute but that blur around the edge of the camera/screen kinda sucks. But I'm really curious on what they're gonna do for the gameplay, especially regarding items like the shield, boots, and bracelet, best case scenario is those all get designated buttons and we can equip two/three items along with the sword. I'm hoping we get some extra content as well, or at the very least the stuff from the DX version.
not sure how to feel about the presentation, but link's awakening was (literally) the first videogame i ever played. it makes me feel feelings to see it being remastered, and i'll probably play through this at some point.
this is the only game my mom's ever played to the end. she got super hype watching this trailer
the artstyle is taken from the picture mode in I think the DX version. Very excited for this!
It isn't quite, the picture mode's face and proportions would look pretty different if he was a straight translation of that. We'll have to wait and see how expressive dot-eyed Link will get. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1844/cba58ff3-70bc-469c-a0b9-691727488a28/image.png https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1844/9a9e6159-714e-4b5e-b831-fc11e65dc96e/image.png
I don't get why people are worried about Dot eyed Link's expressions. GB LA Sprite Link didn't have expressions and everyone was fine with that. I assure you, the photos when they return, won't have dotted eye Link.
GB LA Link sprite also had to exist on a 160x144 resolution screen and he tended to express in all art besides his sprite. Putting the diorama art direction aside the big argument between the schools of thought arguing for and against chibi/SD proportions is whether or not you should respect the sprites as they appear, or what those sprites were meant to be representing.
I thought the art style was really cute at first but now I don't like it. It looks like a fan project, not a Nintendo grade end result. I really wish they just had used LBW's look, instead. That said, I wonder if the Oracle games will follow suit!
