ITS A FUCKING SEQUEL
These guys are fucking machines, we're all only expecting like, a DLC, not a whole new game.
Looks sick af.
(original) Hollow Knight story spoilers:
Notice how none of the bugs are bleeding yellow when struck? Absolutely no trace of the Radiance's infection left, as the Knight in the true ending would be doing. They're all bleeding purple instead. Or red. I wonder if this possibly relates to the Godmaster ending at all...
Imagine if they only charged $15 for this.
Holy shit I thought it was gonna be an expansion. But damn it’s a straight up sequel
They talk in more detail about it here.

This made me forget about the Nintendo Direct, and i've enjoyed that quite alot.
I was already pretty hyped for this, knowing that it was gonna be a full fledged expansion, yet they managed to surpass my expectation with a completely new sequel.
Can't wait, i'll preorder as soon as they'll get the page up.
this looks sick! I brushed off Hollow Knight for way too long until I gave it a proper try. I ended up playing it almost non stop for a whole week until I finished the game. so excited for even more content
I feel like I ripped them off and I bought it at full price.
God I'm so excited for this, I just bought Hollow Knight two months ago and I regret not buying it sooner, it's one if my favorite games
It is technically a different kingdom, maybe the infection was never here
I hope we get some follow up to the final DLC ending, I didn't slave through all of the bosses dozens of times to not get some payoff
Wait I just realized something (story spoilers)
I thought Hollownest was the only place with sapient bugs? One of the signs in the game says the Pale King blessed people with knowledge and leaving Hollownest means giving that up. Though I suppose different Kings could do the same thing
Hollow Knight is one of my favorite games ever and this looks so much better. Which is a crazy concept but holy shit Hornet4Smash
There's evidence in the game and the prequel comic that bugs can have sentience when they leave Hallownest. Some of the NPCs have traveled to Hallownest from other kingdoms as well. Might just be propaganda from the Pale King or the situation is more complicated
I think it's a mix of both actually, since it explains why The Knight comes to Hollownest from the wilds despite being from Hollownest, and Quirrel mentions are first he's not from Hollownest but slowly over the game remembers that he is and was in fact working under Monomon. It could be anyone related to the Pale King and The Dreamers forgets so they don't share the secrets to then outside world, and perhaps ending The Infection undoes that, hence why Hornet can travel outside and not forget.
I wonder if Hornet is going to have actual dialog in this game. I know she's shouting out simlish in combat just as she did in Hollow Knight, but it still makes me curious if she won't say anything as a result of being the protagonist in this game.
The dialogue in Hollow Knight were written in a way where characters carried the conversation on their own. It wasn't that the Knight couldn't speak, i dont think he was ever given a reason too.
There were only once or twice someone in the game commented on the fact he never speaks calling him a "silent type" or something.
I hope Hornet does the same, i like silent protagonists.
It might be a bit weird to have her speak in the first game and then not speak in the second though.
The Knight can't speak, "no voice to cry suffering"
From the flashback in the bottom of the abyss
The Knight not speaking and only communicating through gesture (challenging the Mantis Lords by pointing your nail at them, etc) was generally a supporting element, which was also shown through The Broken Vessel and The Hollow Knight themselves, as well as the rest of the vessels. There's also the fact that when you're near NPCs, the prompt that appears is "Listen", not "Talk".
Hornet, I don't think has any reason to not speak, but if she's going to remain silent for one reason or the other, it'll probably be like Mario and Luigi where they both "speak" to NPCs but you don't ever see their dialog.
Holy balls yes.
Hollow Knight is one of my top games ever, everything about it is sublime, the controls, the soundtrack, the world, the bosses. Man I actually had chills at the end of this. This is gonna be a good year for games. Especially indies.
