If the supreme Court allowed this, then by extension another president could declare a national emergency to make climate change law drastically different. I don't know that the GOP know the precedent they are setting.
Yeah, this would be bad for republican interests as well, seeing as if it holds up then you can declare a national emergency it could set a precedent to use it for anything.
Including action on climate change and maybe healthcare
If this happens, time to usher in the era of eternal subverting of congress to get the president what he wants. This would have an enourmous impact on executive power and frankly, I fear that is will be inevitably used for demagoguery that's much worse than building walls.

If I were president then I would declare Trump's judicial appointments a national emergency and order them to resign. That is absolutely not how it works but anything goes in the post Trump era.
Just imagine if the next Democrat POTUS had the balls to declare the 2016 Election Interference a "national emergency", and go through with a metaphorical sledgehammer to undo as much as Trump's destructive policies as possible.
Normally, I would think of that as a bad can of worms to open, but fuck it - the whole Trump presidency has been one slippery slope, and the GOP congress clearly shows no interest in doing their jobs to uphold checks and balances.

The Dems embarrassed themselves by declaring a victory when they offered Trump ~less than half~ of the money he wanted for his stupid fucking wall, and Trump is going to take that money, and probably get the rest he wants by declaring the emergency anyway. Trump gets to walk away looking clean by not having to set off another shutdown, gets like 1.3 billion in free funding for his wall, and likely gets the rest of the wall anyway since virtually no one in the US government has the spine to stop him from declaring this "national emergency".
That money can only be used to repair fences or build 55 miles of new fence, and it specifically says it can only be existing fence designs.
