Gaiden is still debated upon for its canonicity. Its been years but I remember the ending being so absurd that it makes my head hurt to even think about.

To play devils advocate, I think a mutant leon hybrid that has fooled us all for the past 15 years would be a hilarious plot twist to pull today.
