https://www.cnn.com/2019/02/15/politics/bill-weld-2020-exploratory-committee/index.html "I hope to see the Republican Party assume once again the mantle of being the party of Lincoln. It upsets me that our energies as a society are being sapped by the President's culture of divisiveness in Washington," he said Friday in New Hampshire. "Because of the many concerns, I've established an exploratory committee ... as a Republican in the 2020 election."
Do it. Primary him.
Why in the world, we should trust an ex-Republican tractor-turned-the Libertarian Party's vice presidential candidate from last presidential election, that also 'spoiled' Hillary's win (if people forget they take more supposed votes than the other third parties decried about) in process. Suddenly re-trusting him again only for possibly to beat Trump as Republican. Like that?
Already got a slogan for him: ”Trump divided our country; Weld it back together again.”
Can you post this point again in a fashion where roughly 44% of the post isn't a parenthetical phrase? Not trying to be mean or anything.
Aaaand you've just lost the republican vote because republican voters support Trump.
Sorry, But I mean't why in this world. We instantly should (re-)supporting this guy since he was run as the 2016 Libertarian Party vice presidential candidate. Which their party "take" more votes from both the major parties ideologically, than any third parties and independents combine in that worst the US presidential election in recent memory.
It isn't so much support for Weld as it is a desire to see anyone erode Trump's support before the 2020 election. I'm sure Republicans feel the same way about the Starbucks guy in regard to the Democrats' chances. The problem here is that Weld almost seems too sane to offer any realistic challenge to Trump.
By far more sane than Trump is.
Too bad Weld doesn't stand a chance. the GOP of today is too extreme for someone who says he wants to bring it back to Lincoln's time.
Though there is a first time for everything, Every president that ran for a 2nd term but had a primary opponent has always won the primary, but consistently lost the general election IIRC So if Weld manages to do some heavy-handed damage to Trump, even if he doesn't have a chance, it'll seriously hurt Trump in the generals. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with divided focus, where Trump would have to deal with Weld and the Democrats.
Maybe the GOP is too extreme because the moderates have become disenchanted and left. If a bloke like Weld were to run for the Republican nomination, it might even bring some moderates back; especially those dissatisfied with Trump.
this guy hasn't run for office since 1994, there's just no comparison between him and republicans today, even kasich is more right wing than him. There's only susan collins left from his brand of republicans and you can see the writing on the wall with her as she has to face rcv next time as well
I just want Weld to Primary Trump because of the massive insult losing the primary as sitting POTUS would be to Orange in Chief's fragile fragile fragile ego. Insult to injury, because if it hasn't already happened, the fallout of the Special Counsul's investigation will whammy him as well.
he might as well be primaried against martin omalley, this guy gives trump legitimacy that he won the primary fairly, and yet he poses absolutely zero threat to trump.
Hopefully this will give some other republicans the incentive to run in the primary as well. Majority of them would probably campaign against Trump more than each other.
