Thank god it's not the same Aurora as the one in Colorado, those people have been through enough already.
Yeha, thank god it’s only just another group of kids at school getting shot. God bless America Badly worded post, mate
https://abc7ny.com/live--aurora-shooting-leaves-multiple-wounded-large-police-presence-confirmed-by-kane-county-sheriff/5140701/ John Probst, a Henry Pratt employee who escaped the building, said he saw a man holding a pistol with a laser scope. He said he recognized the shooter as a coworker. Probst said he saw other coworkers injured and that the shooter was firing indiscriminately. "One of the guys was up in the office, he said this person was shootin', and, he come running down and he was bleeding pretty bad, and the next thing you know he was walking back and forth, I heard more shots, and we just left the building," Probst said. Probst said he and a coworker escaped through the back door.
When I saw "Aurora" and "Shooting" I assumed the worst. No need to interpret that as praise or approval, it's simply an acknowledgement that it would be even more unfortunate for a location to be repeatedly struck by mass shooter incidents.
Get your shit together Illinois/Chicago-land area. Still, what was the "straw" that set this motion. Fucked up all around.
Well considering one guy said the shooter was a co-worker and they work for Henry Pratt, which is a "manufacturer of valves for the potable water, wastewater, power generation and industrial markets." It would suggest that it's a disgruntled employee situation of some kind.
Why can't people just quit by being a complete asshole why SHOOT the place up fuck
Because this is America where not only can you buy a handgun faster than you can buy a mattress but your mental illness that's still untreated will continue to go untreated because we don't know how to deal with you
IDK I got a mattress delivered two hours after placing the order via Prime Now
They got him https://twitter.com/CityofAuroraIL/status/1096514995943161856
why is this getting dumbed though?
Because it's empty rhetoric hastily tying together two issues that makes less sense the more you think about it
Wow, it's almost like these shootings happen so often that it's grounds for a national emergency
It sounds more like hyperbolic anti-gun rhetoric, not meant to be so literal The mental issue stuff, he's kind of right. The US really doesn't deal with issues well at all. Care is massively overpriced and a lot of people are just given drugs instead of real help. Maybe its worded in a short sighted way, but these are still problems we have.
You know what? The more I think about it, the more times I see the US being the only first world country having real trouble with active shooters and doing absolutely nothing about it because "guns don't kill people!" keeps being thrown around and people rage at the fact of anyone messing with anything whatsoever. People might aswell not give a fuck about active shooters, because apparently nothing will ever be done to circumvent any future shootings. But hey, the countries that have strict regulations regarding firearms are doing horribly bad, and people are marching the streets over their guns right?
I absolutely agree with that, and I think the hyperbole is why he's getting dumbed, because with an issue so complicated, making it so farcically simple just comes off as a shitpost
Shit, I was passing right by this area on my way back from Westmont when I heard about it on WCPT. Saw a shitton of cop cars with their sirens on going towards Aurora on my way, and even after I heard the shooter was apprehended there were even more cops rolling down Randall going to the scene. Never thought this shit would happen so close to home. I mean yeah there's the regular Armed Robbery/Shooting that happens at the Steak n' Shake nearby but an absolute clusterfuck like a mass shooting is unheard of around here.
ok cowabunga it is then That's part of the issue. Exposure is incredibly disproportional because mediabux. By our count, the US makes up less than 1.43% of the mass public shooters, 2.11% of their murders, and 2.88% of their attacks. All these are much less than the US’s 4.6% share of the world population. Attacks in the US are not only less frequent than in other countries, they are also much less deadly on average. For example, Lankford’s claim that higher rates of gun ownership are associated with more mass public shooters completely disappears when this more complete data on mass public shooters is used Source for both oh just shut up if you don't know what you're talking about Gun control laws are being proposed and passed these days at an unprecedented rate akin to a flood. Dangerously strong regulations are being approved quickly in many states and it’s almost impossible to keep up with them all - perhaps that is why people don’t notice? Another possibility is that the people least affected by the gun control laws constantly being passed (non gun-owners) are the ones who make this claim because they never see the effects, having almost no skin in the game. Finally, I think the last and most relevant reason is simply exposure. Sure people like you in the Portugal will hear about a shooting, but why would your news report on a specific state passing some specific legislature? 126 gun control bills were passed in 2018 alone, and more have been passed since then and more will be proposed and will pass this year. It's easy to search up "gun law proposals [year] [state]" but no one ever does I guess, so people keep going "nothing is being done" which just results in pushes for more laws... On top of that, this happened in Illinois, a state with some of the strictest gun laws in the nation.
Nobody should feel safe any town, any city, any business That's not to say someone should live in constant fear, but this shit is so serious. It just doesn't fucking stop.
Yeah let pretend like Illinois doesn't have some strict gun laws
Honestly this has me really on edge since one of my Coworkers is a serious Incel type constantly spouting InfoWars garbage who looks like he could go postal any day.
So far two injured, no reports about fatalities. https://twitter.com/rushcopley/status/1096515846296518656
I honestly never thought there would be a shooting like this only the town over from me, really fucking scary.
I'm glad no one was killed (similarly with the Netflix shooting) and that the perpetrator was arrested. It is a shame, however, that this event will likely be forgotten about in a week's time as a result of no one actually getting killed, and that the shooter will just be sent to prison without anyone learning anything along the way.
at least one killed: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-illinois-shooting/gunman-opens-fire-at-illinois-plant-at-least-one-killed-idUSKCN1Q42M4
FYI, I actually took into account the times it shows up on the media as a rougher estimate of how many times the US has another active shooter case, and am instead taking into account gun violence in general, which while we're at it, is only bested by countries like Venezuela, Honduras and such. Because IMO people should get moving when things happen but still don't get to the news, but I bet you're already gonna switch tune and say "but this is about mass shootings" Lastly, maybe if stricter gun laws aren't doing a thing, then maybe there should be a different approach to the problem? Which I think also falls in line with crime in general, so on and so forth...
"Lower than world average" sounds great until you look at this list. Just look at that distinguished crowd. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/169870/a74cee14-925a-41df-abd6-68fe097d6245/image.png Last I checked, the US is considered a "developed" country, unlike pretty much every other country on this part of the list. Looking up the author as well, he doesn't sound like the most impartial guy.
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/15/us/aurora-shooting.html The current dead count is five. The gunman was 45 and was employed by the company.
Yeah, lets kill some employees, that will really show the corporations and the rich!
