Not going to go anywhere unless they become a third party, which pretty much requires the entirety of the lib Dems to dissolve into them and much more deserters from labour and cons.
https://twitter.com/tpointessex/status/1097440715402067968?s=19 Was going through the Twitter responses to this announcement and saw this. Having a hard time believing turning point accounts aren't a troll. I think something like this has been a long time coming, but I don't think big enough players are part of this initial group.
Good riddance. They've been trying to undermine the party for too long. I hope they have the decency to run a by election - to see if their constituencies still want to be represented by them.
Good, they're scum
That account is one of the troll ones by the look of it
Have you been living under a rock? The anti-semitism thing is a confusing and somewhat exaggerated scandal that has haunted Labour for a couple of years now, starting with Livingstone.
Hard to imagine this will actually lead to anything getting better for the British left, but I hope that these new Independents can put their priorities in a logical place and cooperate with the Labour party against the Tories. If you can't be in the party, that's one thing, but don't then seek to undermine it.
Listening on LBC, it's turning out to be quite an interesting development.
so were these actual Labour party members or more blairites?
Having tuned into their announcement stream late and given what one of them was saying, yeah, they are more Blairites and Centrists than just disgruntled Labour MPs.
I need to make an account which treats all of the accounts as troll accounts
Addendum to this: At first it was "Labour is being taken over by Trots" Then it was "Labour are terrorists!" Then "Labour are sexist!" Then "Labour are homophobic!" Now it's "labour are anti semites". Eventually the antisemite accusation well will run dry and they'll find a new smear to paste on the papers.
Their website has gone down, they had a good run
Pro-Remain MPs leaving Labour due to lack of Brexit stance not even being able to remain on the Internet does not bode well!
These aren't Pro-Remainers leaving because of Brexit, these are spiteful Blaireite cunts leaving because they can't oust Corbyn and think the party is too far left.
That's not why they're leaving at all. Don't lie to people please. They them-very-selves said they're leaving because Labour has "gone too far left" and because of "antisemitism". They're Blairite neoliberals, blue labour. This is not about brexit.
Need a political shift in English politics anyway. The polarisation of politics in the UK was turning us into a two-party state like the US - this should hopefully initiate breaking that up.
don't let the door hit you on the way out
The article mentions Corbyn's stance on Brexit as one of the reasons several times though. At any rate, it was just a silly joke. Finally, calling my statement a lie implies I was attempting to mislead - even if my statement was wrong, it'd not be a lie
Forgive my hostility, I shouldn't have assumed bad intent, I've been using reddit lately and there's a lot of misinformation going on.
But if this movement is to gain traction among Labour MPs and more break away from the party, then it's just going to split the Labour vote and guarantee more Tory victories.
Come the next election these guys will be voted out and replaced with labour MPs again.
Bullshit. That argument and applies to the entire political system, applying it just to Labour sets an unfair standard and will pull votes away from Labour resulting in more Tory rule. The depolarisation of all politics is good, the depolarisation of one specific party just gives the other one power. Besides, how in any way is it valuable to us to get more enlightened centrists? In today's political climate centrism is close to as dangerous as facism in the sense that its inaction will lead to facism, worsening climate change, even more corporate irresponsibility and literally nothing being done to tackle the inherent contridiction of automation making people's lives harder.
The political shift happened and it came with Corbyn. This is just more status quo morons throwing their toys out the pram. The least they could do is stand a by election but they won't. Bleating on about a 'broad church' yet ironically accepting only a thin slither from the centre before they do all in their power to try and crush the dissent. The only bullies here are these idiots and they should have been deselected.
By that same argument you can say that votes for Lib Dem and Green candidates are wasted votes. Labour has been wholly ineffective in curtailing Tory policy, against one of the worst governments assembled. Centrist politics is hardly the dominant force in the UK currently anyway - the Tories are rampant corporatists, anti-libertarian and quite frankly authoritarian in their pursuit of digital surveillance and erosion of public welfare. Labour on the other hand are schizophrenics who have an anti-Brexit member base with a Eurosceptic leadership who are so indecisive that they're allowing the Tories to run amok in their Brexit-induced deregulation fantasies. His political shift has amounted to nothing. His indecisiveness is maintaining the status quo that we're currently enduring i.e. the enabling of Tory corporatism and privatisation.

except, unlike the two-party state of the US, one of those parties in the UK actually represents meaningful systemic change
amounted to nothing? who WOULD have amounted to something? he exceeded expectations last election, and brexit has no easy answer despite a large online contingent believing that if labour simply supported a second referendum everything would be fine. if you think the ferocious media assault and character assassination would be any different if it was someone other than corbyn then you're sorely mistaken. it's assaulting the status quo that means he has 'led to nothing'.
Honestly the guy has a point. It fucking says something when your own party can't muster up the courage and support to fight an incompetent, clearly corrupt party of politicians that believe in unrealistic and destructive ideologies (dare say even fantasies), even when you have real, practical methods and paths to follow that could easily net you support because of what massive majority of people in the country want; a second referendum. Corbyn fucked up. Big time. I used to look up to him but now he's just as blind to his own delusions as every other politician in the house. He can't put down his own principles for the people he's supposed to represent, or at least talk to them about it. He's no better than May.
