Nicholas Sandmann, 16, seeks $US250 million ($349 million) in damages, the amount that Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon.com and the world's richest person, paid for the Post in 2013.
That is fucking hilarious. Good fucking luck
this will not end well for him and his family.
i cant wait
What a little fragile creep
There's no way he has grounds to sue here but still.. Wasn't the native american responsible for all of the sensationalism in the first place by instigating?
Always highball when you sue so the agreed payout is about what you expect. You never get the number you write down.
All he did was walk up to them, not sure how them acting like complete racists is somehow the natural response and his fault.
???
Did I only get the first 10 seconds of the story? When did anyone especially he kid who became the posterboy for it do anything racist besides stand his ground with that goofy smile? All while the old guy was banging the drum inches from his face?
Aren't there amounts that are so high that the case gets thrown out?
Im not a trump supporter but the kids only crime was that smile, he did nothing else. I'd be suing if i was him too.
Entitled little shit's gonna get himself laughed out of the court, but will probably make bank on a crowdfunding site by asking for a "legal fund."
Have you guys read then article?
The parents are the ones pushing this, not the kid.
Yes he is definitely in the right for some compensation considering the media attempted to ruin a kid's life for quick clicks. He ended up getting death threats and such. The whole situation was a mess.
I don't understand this. Didn't we have a massivly replied thread discussing how evidence turned up that the kid did nothing wrong? This is exactly why his parents are suing for libel. The kid did nothing wrong and in the videos tried to calm the situation by telling his friends to stop spouting bullshit to agitate the situation further.
Why are people who are bringing up this point being dumb? You fell for the same sensationalist news the Alt-Right throw up there which only fuels the fire. He should sue for libel because of exactly this, everyone including a few here on Facepunch have demonized this poor kid just because he wears a red fucking hat and has some difference of opinion. With the evidence surmounted the kid did nothing wrong. Stop this. The kid is 16, this doesn't make you tough labeling some minor with his political views likely influenced from his parents as a "fragile creep" or hoping this backfires on his family.
Imagine being in his shoes. You're 16 years old, havn't even really started life and you're a social pariah all the sudden because the media and their consumers gobbled up this story before the full range of evidence was revealed, and even after still gobble up this dumbfounding rhetoric of "evil maga kid". Lord forbid people have a difference of opinion, lord forbid a kid be judged for his ideals and charicter rather than the hat he wears. Which mind you, his class was visiting Washington D.C. and MANY of them wore Maga hats just to wear them for that trip.
I despise Trump and everything he has done, but this stupid blind rabbidism has only further driven the political divide and entrenched these camps even more. A kid who previously once maybe did not care all too much about politics was shown that the "lefties" are rabbid doxxers who want his head on a pike. Imagine that for optics, and imagine how that shape's someone's opinion.
I wonder if this would set a precedent so the Parkland kids could put up a suit against the various news organizations who slandered them.
If they've been slandered they absolutely can and should sue, there's no new precedent needed. Do you have any specific news organizations in mind?
This is only applicable if you disregard any and all context and symbolism the hat carries. It's not just a hat, it's implicit endorsement and approval of the Trump administration's actions and policies. It's a hood or an armband exactly the same way that I don't have to describe the hood or the armband for you to know which hood or which armband I mean. It's a cultural cue, and it means "I am at best complicit with caging brown kids and sabotaging any hope the world had of averting irreversible climate crisis. I am at best complicit with crushing the life from the working class to fill the coffers of the unimaginably rich. I am at best complicit with taking healthcare away from the poor and funneling money into an imaginary wall while people starve to stroke the ego of a racist, worm-brained failed real estate magnate. All of this is good and I want more of it to happen." There's no separating the hat from the bigotry. It is provocation and he put that hat on knowing that, it's why he has that shit-eating grin.
They counter-protested a Native American civil rights march wearing a bunch of MAGA hats, no prizes for guessing how they feel about people of other races.
I'm 99% sure this was debunked
I'm 100% sure what a MAGA hat means on any cunt, even if they're teenagers.
I absolutely agree, but that's not what we're after. Are the deliberately counter protesting an indigenous civil rights march?
Does a counter protest have to be planned in advance?
OK, let's ruin a kid's life because of his political beliefs. At 16 years old your mind is already made and cannot change. He's a full blown adult that needs adult consequences.
Yeah, it means he's dumb and immature.
It's almost like...
He's 16.
Everyone already forgot about the kid, why do this?
This will just make things worse for him.
I hate to inform you of this, but it is actually possible to be 16 and racist.
I didn't vote for Trump or approve of most if any of his policies but I think people care too much about that stupid hat.
Yes. Yes it is.
So, lets ruin his life now, and prevent further racism later, right? That's how this works in your mind isn't it?
If we're somehow vicious and cruel, then things will end up better for everyone? No, fuck off, stop parading around advocating for black and white nuanceless political arguments as if that's what our world is made up of.
What a coincidence, it's also possible to change your mind when you're 16 too.
