AFAIK, one of the main culprits to aging and cell breakdown overtime has to do with the Telomeres on the caps of Chromosomes being shortened to near nothing.
Kind like how an SSD allocates "virgin" flash space for wear leveling, once all the flash space has been used up, the drive starts to have more failures as R/W cycles increase.

Telomeres act as a cap on the number of divisions a cell can undergo but they can be built up again with certain enzymes. It's one of the hallmarks of cancer to keep doing this in order to become immortal.
If I recall, there was a study a while back that gave old mice the blood of younger mice and certain aspects of ageing were reversed. I don't know if it was ever reproduced and there's still a long ways off before being even close to relevant in humans.
