Did they copy Microsoft's "pure imagination" Surface Studio unveiling with that video lmao.
Nothing new, we already had folding phones 15 years ago which were called flipphones, this is just some cheap chinesium knockoff.
A $1000 price-point could have worked, but twice that? Eeeeeeh maybe this is worth getting in 5 years or more once the manufacturing cost has reduced heavily.
can't wait for it to cost something like $3500 over here
2000 dollars? Are they off their fucking rocker?
Yeah, I was watching the trailer and thinking "You guys can't just do that, someone already did that."
As for the folding bit, I still say what I said in a previous thread about this:
Ideally, I'd have a folding phone actually fold out in three, sorta like [the Nokia] Morph concept. As in, the outer screen maintains continuity with the two inner screens, so that when you unfold it in a sort of Z-shape, all three segments are used at once rather than turning off the outer screen in tablet mode. A 16:9 ratio in all three segments would also result in a near-16:9 ratio for the unfolded screen, as 16:9 is close to √3. So height-to-folded-width would be about the same as unfolded-width-to-height. As in:

If we're gonna have three screens, we might as well use them all together. Otherwise, the Mi Mix Flex is the more economical way of doing "one screen turning into a twice as big one", since doesn't just have an external screen adding cost only to sit unused in tablet mode, when we can pull the same thing off without one.
Can we just go back to the iPhone 4/5 designs and call it a day
thanks
Cool as shit but I'd rather a note with a nice leather flip-cover case
I don't see the need for these gimmicky features phones keep having. My phone is a CAT S41 and it has the 3 I really need: battery life, durability, and waterproof. If people bought what they actually needed instead of buying for dickwaving rights, phones wouldn't be so fucken outlandish.
I don't want touch screens. I want a fucking keyboard.
Nah, I think the size of a Pixel 3 is the sweet-spot for phones, going back to a 4S as a backup device was incredibly strange and limited in terms of UX.
Bendable screens are lame I want a bezel-free 3 screen Westworld phone

I feel like phones are just going in a circle. They went from being massive to as small as possible, now they have gone from small all the way back up to massive.
have you experienced swipe-texting on a modern android phone? it's faster than trying to poke at tiny buttons, and allows some inaccuracy by the user's swiping path by analyzing sentence prediction
It's far too raw for what it wants to do.
It's thick, unable to fully fold (there is a gap when closed, like the surface book), expensive as hell and doesn't really offer that much over a standard big smarthphone as they are only able to double in one direction (stuff like video is basically the same size as a regular smartphone).
The multitasking seems to be it's only saving grace, but for 2000$... nah.
I have a modern android phone and its absolute hell on my finger but also because the autocorrect is absolute garbage. Most people I've watched who text quickly actually use their thumbs to individually hit each key instead still. The Swipe Text thing.
Also the sentence prediction is absolute shit if you do anything other than habit forming sentences. If you use it to chat about any number of subjects, like I do on here, the predictor has no idea what to do with it. It took the damn thing 3 months to allow me to say damn, shit, fuck, piss and etc.
I think it's a good start tbf and it gets me excited for what could come in the future.
I want both
I have been using a phone and tablet combo for 6 or more years now when out and about. I cannot wait for the day I can buy a reasonably price smart phone that looks similar to modern smart phones but can fold or extend out to a decent tablet size. I certainly wont be buying this thing but it is something I like to see. Good hope for the future.
Trying to input text using a touch screen is complete trash compared to physical keys, no amount of fancy software can change that
I'm fine with that too. Just give me a slider again.
What the hell kind of QWERTY keyboard phones were y'all using because I remember those buttons being fucking miniscule and having to basically use the edges of my thumbnails to hit them during the 3 or so years they were a thing before the iPhone wiped that shit off the map
Welcome to my hell with touch screens.
is that a no, then? you've not used it as described?
I don't see the appeal of this? Oh wow bigger display but why do you need a bigger display for a smartphone.
This is incredibly cool but I don't think I would ever be able to justify the price. I get they probably put the fold on the inside to protect it when it's not in tablet mode but it seems wasteful needing a third.
I mean literally an entire market exists for that purpose (tablets), the appeal of this is having a seamless tablet screen that stores in a phone size form factor.
Pretty much only the Xperia Compact phones fulfill this today.
1.9k..I could literally buy a pair of iPhones with that money
