took long enough for cops just stealing money from people to be ruled unconstitutional didnt it
Pretty open and shut case. The guy was convicted of a crime, the maximum allowable fine was $10,000, but the cops seized a $50,000 vehicle that wasn't even bought with proceeds from the criminal acts.
Ridiculous that it required the supreme court to say this was bullshit, the bill of rights applies to every citizen regardless of state.
They have to manually affirm every individual right in the Constitution applies to state level and below, because constitutional rights specifically only applied to the federal government until the 14th Amendment.
Civil forfeiture should be illegal.
