• GOP Senate ready to use the "nuclear option" to confirm Trump nominees faster

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/20/us/politics/senate-nuclear-option-trump.html WASHINGTON — Senate Republicans are preparing to detonate a mini-nuke. Angry over Democratic delaying tactics that have slowed the conveyor belt of Trump administration nominees plodding toward confirmation, the Senate majority is preparing to strong-arm a rules change that would reduce required debate time on judicial and executive branch appointees to two hours from as many as 30. It would be the third time in six years that one party has used a procedural tactic, called the “nuclear option,” to rewrite the Senate rule book rather than do it the old-fashioned way by assembling a bipartisan consensus. But Republicans say Democrats are stalling noncontroversial nominees to simultaneously hamstring the Trump administration and force Republicans to waste sparse Senate floor time, and they are fed up. With hundreds of Trump appointees awaiting action, some for more than a year, Republicans say they can no longer tolerate Democrats forcing them to stretch out floor consideration as long as possible, eating up multiple days to confirm a single person.
Don't support a dictator, you fucking muppets, and the Democrats wouldn't be trying to fuck up your efficiency at gutting the country from the inside. And you can direct all your complaints about Democrat obstruction to Justice Merrick Garland, who I'm sure would be glad to hear obstructionist senators whining about the other team using the same tactics they spent most of a decade relying on.
Watch them conveniently change the rules back come next election.
We have all this shit of wrong doing by Trump, how the fuck any of them can call themselves American. Yet ignore every horrible thing that man does to this great country? Get fucking real you fucks, open your goddamn eyes. True Americans see through the bullshit and we won't stand for it. Trying to kill freedom, that's all they want to do.
Maybe because these traitors are the root cause of the problem in the first place. Trump is the symptom, GOP is the cancer.
Man, its almost as if for every time the democrats fucked up the Republicans try to out do them to such a severity that is cartoonish.
given how so many trump nominees have had to withdraw from their own stupidity and incompetence isn't it kind of pertinent to make sure his people are not totally stupid?
One must wonder, how many of them could be complicit in crimes related to the ongoing investigation? Covering things up, taking hush money, or worse. The Republican party has shown time and time again that it does not support our democratic values. When the next election rolls around they'll release what a mistake changing the power afforded to the majority party was. Just have to hope they won't run the country into the ground in the meantime.
Goddamn right baby.
It is called the nuclear option because once it is broken, no-one is probably going to change it back. A ruling party is unlikely to restrict itself.
It'll be more interesting to see how many aren't implicated in the meta-conspiracy that is President Trump and everything he's done before and since inauguration.
I worry that when the truth comes to light that it will spell disaster for the US. Things are rocky enough already. Can't imagine the unrest that would follow a majority of Republican senators being accused of treason. A large segment of the country is so set in their beliefs that it's hard to believe much of anything could change their mind. I've met Republicans that believe that Nixon was innocent.
Somewhere Mitch McConnell is spinning in an office chair, masturbating; he pretty much invented this tactic.
2020, blue Senate convenes, first order of the day is to undo the three rule changes made in recent years that have made it so easy for shit nominees to ramrod through. Second order of the day is to change the rules regarding changing Senate rules. New requirements: Proposal must first acquire a 3/4th majority approval in Senate. If one party has a sufficient supermajority to ram something through, then in addition, 3/4ths of the minority party must also agree. Following the Senate passing, it must then gain 3/4 majority approval in House, with same supermajority caveat as Senate. Either POTUS approval or popular referendum approval That should effectively disarm the nuclear option I think. And what's funny is it could be done with the nuclear option itself.
They could easily change it back during the lame duck period if they lose the senate majority in 2020.
The Democrat majority would just change it back with the nuclear option again.
