A curious and weird idea, honestly what they advertised it as (an upgrade for the NES) seems a much more interesting concept than just a scheme to make cheaper cartridges, but that might just be because I was always a fan of console upgrade addons.
In Big Nose Freaks Out, how the fuck did they do the spinning in the jump? With how graphics work on the NES, I didn't think this was possible, even with extra memory.

Looking at it in slow motion, it seems that the character sprite is not actually rotated but rather meticulously redrawn for each frame so that every angle for the same pose is represented during the jump animation. Think of it as having a sprite in Photoshop, rotating it a couple degrees, using a new layer to draw atop that base with the pencil tool to make a viable pixel version, and then setting that aside for use the game. Then continuing with that for every couple degrees until you have enough sprites to make the character appear to spin without ever actually needing diagonal pixel witchcraft.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that.
