Germany has refused to bow to pressure from Britain to start selling arms to Saudi Arabia again. Jeremy Hunt, the foreign secretary, had written to Berlin to ask the government to soften its stance, saying it is “imperative” that it exempt big defence projects from its arms sales halt to Saudi Arabia or face damage to its commercial credibility. But Germany’s foreign minister Heiko Maas said the government was sticking to its weapons exports freeze.
Andrew Smith from the Campaign Against Arms Trade told The Independent: "It is totally inappropriate for Jeremy Hunt to act as a lobbyist for BAE Systems and the Saudi dictatorship. The German government is absolutely right to have stood up to his pressure and demands."
Good. What fucking clout does the UK have over Germany at this point anyway, we're barely a month out from Brexit anyway.
it makes it even better that britain is brexiting from the EU making themselves inferior to germany AND most of britain's defense industry is multinational between germany, france, and britain.
there's just not enough space to list all the reasons why brexit is awful
I've already accepted that I'll never get to go home to a functioning country. May as well fucking just start claiming the US as my primary nationality.
ironic
Posturing to suck SA's dick hoping for some juicy contracts to lessen the economic blow of Brexit. Classy.
