https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2019/feb/20/pinterest-anti-vaxx-propaganda-search-facebook TLDR Pinterest cracked down on anti-vaxxers, added a policy clause banning them from the site, blocked links to known anti-vaxx sites, made the search tool return a blank page if you search 'vaccine', and implemented a ContentID-style system that blocks known anti-vaxx images. Article says it doesn't catch 100% of the shit but it's a much greater effort than most sites are making.
Better implement the same for political propaganda while they're at it.
I feel like anti-vaxx is a safe place to keep the censorship at considering it's objectively harmful, meanwhile blocking political propaganda is a very slippery slope since that line is far more blurred imo
Might as well block every controversial thing ever. I get that vaccines is a big topic right now but honestly, so what? If people "do their research" and come to the conclusion that they don't want to vaccinate their kids, why is that such a bad thing? It risks the kid, not anyone else. Which sucks of course for the kid but when they're older they are always capable of getting vaccinated later on. Me personally I don't get why my kid (hypothetical, I can't breed) needs to be vaccinated against a sexually transmitted disease. HOWEVER, I would never tell anyone not to vaccinate their kids, it just means I'd have more than a few questions for the doctors first that's all. Nothing wrong with knowing what's being put in your body.
It puts everyone else at risk.
Because its not just your kid. Its your neighbors kid who cant get a vax due to a medical condition. If people are allowed to not vax their kids their own kids could die of a preventable disease, but worse yet is that it allows more carriers of deadly diseaaes which can kill another unvaxxed kid. Its called herd immunity. Children are the most vulnerable population to vaxx preventable diseases and are not capable of vaxxing themselves. Its the parents responsibility to thonk about their kids lice. If they dont then the law will make it mandatory. Vaxxing isnt a maybe. Its a fact that it works and has removed diseases like polio from the general population. Dont undo it due to ignorance.
Wrong. Part of our defense against disease in our society is "herd immunity," which means that because most people in our communities are vaccinated, diseases can't get a foothold and just don't make the rounds. There are people living among us who, because of different conditions on their part, legitimately cannot be safely vaccinated, and thus rely on herd immunity to stay safe. If an unvacinated kid gets something he would've otherwise been immune to and passes it on to a person with a compromised immune system or the like, someone who can't be vaccinated, it could very well kill them.
So, I tried this and yes, it works. For English. However, if I type "Impfstoff" (the word for vaccine in German), I get tons of search results. I get that anti-vaxx movements generally aren't as large outside of the US, but if they're going to prevent anti-vaxxer activities on their platform, they should be more thorough than this.
A 15 second search into infowars shouldn't give you the same credidance as someone who spent 15 years studying medicine, and hundreds of years of research
Email them and let them know.
You know that parenthetical there about how you can't breed? You're doing humanity a huge favour on this one and I really appreciate it.
Maybe people like you should "do their research" and realize that herd immunity is a thing.
https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/111032/c7c90860-bbe2-48d7-aeee-447eda4d04c3/axpzle8.png This literal exact mentality is why we're having a pandemic of diseases we almost fucking ERADICATED. We had a population bloom, longer lifespans, and better quality of life because of vaccines. I don't give a fuck what you THINK your kid needs, because humanity and science has shown WHAT your kid needs.
If you think it just stops with the children of anti-vax parents, you're dead fucking wrong. Anti-vax is a meme that has far greater effects than just risking one child, and it doesn't even stop with the immunocompromised. Children are raised being taught that anti-vax is the correct choice for personal health, and we'd be lucky to see more teenagers taking care of their personal health when their parents have failed them. Otherwise, these same children might themselves grow up, have children, and What's more, anti-vax comes with a very peculiar set of bedfellows: the conspiracy theory that some shadowy government body is trying to make children autistic to work towards some unknown end that doesn't logically benefit anyone, the propagation of fake medicinal remedies like homeopathy, MMS, and essential oils, and ableism and transphobia (blaming vaccines for autism or for the perceived surge of transgender individuals).
"risks the kid" Not on the choice of the kid It also reduces herd immunity which risks kids who have vulnerable immune systems This is just straight up wrong
So while everyone is focusing on the single line of "risks the kid" I'm sitting here wondering how the rest of my message was completely ignored. First off, to this guy here: A huge favor to humanity that I cannot have offspring? Why? Because I said "I would never tell anyone not to vaccinate their kids, it just means I'd have more than a few questions for the doctors first that's all. Nothing wrong with knowing what's being put in your body." <-Looks to me like I'm vaccinating my kids so long as I have all the facts from a licensed professional rather than an Infowars article, doesn't it? Interesting. Let's continue. "Herd Immunity": Is laughable. If it was at all effective, these diseases wouldn't be a threat because they'd have gone extinct by now. Fact is, compromised immune systems are always going to be a thing but you're never going to be able to protect them all. The common Flu can be fatal and you don't even have to have it to spread it. Damn thing just comes out of nowhere each year. And if there are kids dying because the herd failed them, then why don't we hear of those lawsuits? We hear child deaths all the time but no one is ever held responsible for it. And then sources: Where do we get our information? And this is where I differ on my vaccine opinion. Yes I am for vaccines HOWEVER, it's more than a bit concerning seeing more and more scientists come out saying things like; "Dr. Exley’s quote includes a reference to “monocytes at injection sites” and the fact that the interaction between these monocytes and aluminum has been demonstrated in previous published science. I know, that sounds pretty technical, but bear with me. A “monocyte” is a type of white blood cell, of which one form of monocyte is a “macrophage.” A macrophage can be thought of as the garbage man of the immune system, eating up foreign substances, cell debris, etc. As you will see in a moment, macrophages appear to be playing a critical and devastating role in triggering autism, serving to escort aluminum injected from a vaccine directly into the brain, where it can disrupt brain development and trigger autism." Even if vaccines were awful, you... don't seem to understand diseases. You do know that diseases can spread right? Like, as in people can make other people sick through something simple as breathing on them?
Do you really think a blog is a reputable source for medical advice?
No that's why I would ASK A DOCTOR IF I HAD A KID.
hi can you tell me if you've ever been vaccinated? im just running a survey for my research blog to see if vaccines can cause mental retardation thank you for your time
Get off the fence. Look up a few easily accessible online resources and stop being on the fence. It's almost as bad as straight up being an anti-vaxx, you're allowing the misinformation to spread through you (whether you realize it or not) when you could, yourself, easily come to a conclusion by your own research. No need to wait until you can ask a doctor about it. Or, if you're that dead set on 'staying on the fence', stop having input in vaccination conversations.
Then why quote a blog instead of a doctor?
You are anti-vaxx, get the fuck out of here you bioterrorist
Oh nice, an insult out of the blue. Did I fall under that arbitrary category of yours through luck or do you always put people you disagree with there? Engaging in conversations, opening a dialogue, it's the only way anyone can share knowledge. I can read all the facts I want from the CDC and what have you and every single one will say vaccines are good. But just because someone who formed a business around a product says that product is good, doesn't mean your can opener from the dollar store will actually open a can before it breaks. It wouldn't be the first time we've been lied to, and it won't be the last. It was an example of the stuff I see on my feed. Almost always referencing the dangers of aluminum.
Spooky stuff, I propose drinking less soda, then.
Different aluminum. Applied in a different manner. At a different age.
You're pretending to be open minded while rejecting centuries of research. Here's some objective truths. Vaccination works. Herd immunity works. If you're against it, you're anti-vaxx, you're a bio-terrorist, you are responsible for the resurgence of diseases that are now killing countless of people.
woh now aint that the most enormous of surprises right here guys
This is the anti-vax mindset. No matter how many people you engage in conversation with, open a dialogue with, no matter how many studies you read or hell, at this point, no matter how many doctors you talk to, you will always say that there is a business around the industry and that that business might be lying. You've proven your commitment to this mindset already. If you just admitted you're inherently against vaccinations, at least this back-and-forth could be entertaining instead so obviously disingenuous on your end.
He's not anti-vaxx guys, he's on the fence!
