The majority of people here buy into monthly plans and I can understand why - most half decent big brand smartphones sit in the 600-700€ price range
apple launching a 1000$ phone because they can really shot the market in the foot.
When companies started removing replaceable batteries, expandable storage, and headphone jacks, while charging $700, $800, $900, $1000 – that was enough for me, I'm sick of the mobile phone market.
I have a really cheap sim only contract with unlimited data (UK) that I'm never going to give up, so I have to buy all my phones outright and there is absolutely no way 1k+ is a reasonable price for any phone. Samsung have 100% lost the plot trying to sell what is basically a prototype for a new phone format at 1.8k especially when all people have seen is stage demo I'd much rather buy the flagship from a few years ago and swap the battery, I couldn't spend that kind of cash and feel comfortable knowing that it could have gone towards rent, food, or buying like 20 smaller things instead. (And at least those phones still have headphone jacks)
Got a Motorola G4+ back in 2017, gotta say, best phone I've bought. It holds up extremely well, got enough storage to last me decades, screen is beautiful and big enough for my shitty eyesight. There is no reason to buy a $1000+ phone when I can just get a G4+ for like $300 bucks. I'm glad people are starting to realize that hey, maybe buying a new phone once every 5 years is a better idea than every single year.
paid £150 for a simless one of these, best phone i ever owned
I miss the fake leather back of the Note 3 and 4.
At least for me, I really don’t see the point in paying more than (max) 300USD for a phone. The most intensive task I use mine for is light web browsing, I don’t need a 4K QLED panel or the fastest SoC on the market for that
I don't understand apple users, but I understand apple fans even less. I have a coworker who gets the latest iPhone each year
Yeah I know they're manufactured there but I have a particular disdain for Chinese technology companies more than Chinese manufacturing companies
I wish they'd go back to making phones out of durable materials in general. I have never taken my note out of its case because I quite simply can't hold the fucking thing and samsung made it worse by putting the stupid curved screen on which was totally pointless.
the thing is they can put the screen closer to the digitizer and make the whole component less rigid by switching to plastic for the whole component and it has the added bonus of being super thin freeing up more internal room in the phone for things like larger batteries
The trend towards ultra thin phones needs to finally die. We've reached ideal thickness a few years ago. Hell, I like relatively thick phones (I have a Galaxy S7 Active + a beefy Unicorn Beetle case) and I drop it on the regular without ever having to replace the screen.
My CAT S41 has most of the features people need and use anyway, with the added bonus of being waterproof and extremely durable, and only costing 400 dollars. I can also go multiple days without charging. I never saw the appeal of flagship phones, when I can get everything I've needed out of cheaper ones. People use expensive phones as dick-waving devices. It really is a result of our culture and some people's constant need to feel better than everyone else.
I was so disappointed when Google ditched their Nexus line. The Nexus 5 is still my favourite phone, and the only reason I replaced it was due to support being dropped and I wanted a fingerprint scanner. If they brought it back I would be very tempted to drop my Moto Z2 for one.
Consumers need to stop buying expensive phones. Like... It's really not hard. I know that those are the phones flashed in your face and the ones right on display all the time but it's not hard to just... Ignore it. And go to other models. I know the average consumer isn't necessarily going to know all the details they gotta look out for, but it's not that hard to go "ooh, last year's phone is really cheap!"
Recently got an Xiaomi Pocophone F1, it's decent as fuck and I got an Mi Band. £140 all together.
Still using my Oneplus One. $350 brand new, comparable to flagship phones at the time, and it's still brilliant. And the battery is still 85% capacity, AND Oneplus isn't pushing out updates to kill the battery like SOME people. Also it's pretty much just an open device. Put whatever you want on it. Keep it up to date, the works. Not reliant on Oneplus at all
Not all Apple products are overpriced trash though, I'm using an iPhone SE which I bought for 299 back in 2017 and it's been great
Maybe people finally realize that top-end flagship phones are meant to be prestige products.
That's because Oneplus hasn't pushed out any updates to the One. Stopped using mine as a mian phone after the mic broke and then I broke the digitizer again and haven't bought a new screen assembly yet for it, but I still like it. Comfy size, enough power and it works I guess. Wouldn't buy a phone now without an OLED screen or a fingerprint scanner, but back then the phone made a lot of sense.
Just whatever they do, hope they don't pull an LG G5 and make the cheapest shittiest shell imaginable. I mean seriously I've got one 3 years going now and it's starting to crack near the chin piece and the paint has chipped horribly despite perpetually being in a rubber shell.
No point in $700+ phones when the competition is banging out $200-400 phones that people actually want, new nokias, oneplus, etc. Samsung announced 5 S10 variants, 4 had pricing and the top of the line phone did not. the most expensive out of the 4 was $999 to start, up to $1500ish for the most RAM and storage. Those cheeky fucks are going to drop a $2000 phone just wait. My 64GB Pixel 2 cost me $400 a year ago after the holiday deals (600ish msrp) and it spanks its contempotaries IMO
Where did you get that? I can't find any pocofones under £300
I have a Moto G5 and it is an utter stalwart, great phone that emphatically did not break my bank at all. Never really understood why people would chase after high end phones where you really are just paying for the brand.
Aliexpress
I've got a G6 and I have literally no problems with it, there is nothing that makes me want a better phone - besides maybe a really good smartphone camera but I have $5000 of DSLR equipment for that anyway.
I mean Nokia phones seem like a really good bet. Basically the Nokia of old (sans Finnish production), just in a bit of a weird company structure.
I got the Note 9 and, while the phone is fucking perfect as it is right now, like everything is absolutely perfect to me, I wish I had the option of a leather back it was so nice, and I wish I had the money for a LG G4 with a leather back plate, back when it released. It was so cool. Now, I do have the Note 9, but I did buy this extremely expensive phone in hopes of lasting like 5 or more years. Everyone I hear about that have notes seem to have them for years and years and years, even if treating them a bit badly here and there.
