Well you have to remember that the Republican Party at the time was still the party of Lincoln. It wasn’t until FDR in the 30’s, did the ball really start rolling for the Democrats and Republicans to re-adjust their bases. And even then, I don’t believe the early 20th century Democratic and Republican parties were necessarily pro-labour nor anti-labour. Eg the Democratic Party of the 20’s had its pro-labour proponents, but they were only pro-labour to the extent that it helped white workers.
