idk if any europeans know this, probably not, so I thought I'd share.
In america we have a state called dakota on the border with canada:

and some people made up a meme state called "north dakota", because that little area where Canada juts out into the northern US looks so goofy and out of place.
The meme is that America actually owns that land and that it's "north dakota". Part of the meme is that we renamed "Dakota" to "South Dakota", so instead of dakota, and then a northern canadian border, we instead of "north dakota" and "south dakota" so that our northern border is nice and straight across
The reason I bring it up here is because nobody really knows when it began. Allegedly, the joke goes back to some vents involving a land grab race on November 2nd 1889, making it one of America's oldest memes.
The really interesting thing about it is how pervasive it is. All throughout school you would be looking through a book about geography and notice the publishers accidentally put the "north dakota map" in, not having done their due dilligence. Even if you google "America atlas" or "American map" you're highly likely to get a lot of images showing this fictitious state, and a USA with a straight northern border from Wisconsin to Washington, rather than the gap in the middle that belongs to Canada:

anyways, do europeans have their own geography memes, places that don't really exist or that you joke belong to another country?
Is this like how Delaware doesn't exist too?
Delawhat?
are you high? delaware is right there

Residents of Ontario have yet to prove that the rest of Canada actually exists, since they're habituated to acting like it doesn't.

Why would you think that would prove its existence?
This map bothered to make sure not to include north dakota, so I think they did their research
Do they have the Berenstein Bears in this 49 states reality
That's just a map showing geographical "east maryland".
