• I need help running Rust (PC troubles)

So I have always wanted to play rust at an actual framerate sadly this hasn't become a reality over the past 2 or so years of me trying to play this game at a good fps. Any other game I try to run runs fine including overwatch, rainbow 6, pubg, and even bf5. For some reason when I play I start out with around a decent amount of frames around 100, and then over a short amount of time, boom!, down to 50-60 fps. I have really only noticed this on Official Servers though and Servers with around 150-300 players or so. Here is my Steam Profile with my specs of my pc: Steam Community its probably not enough but I can provide you with more statistics if you walk me through. If you want to do this through discord we can if so here is my name : Sir_Pebbles#1423 Please let me know if you have any questions! Thank You!
Comparing Rust to any round-based shooter is pointless and meaningless because Rust is a building sandbox game and OW, R6, PUBG, and BF5 are not. There are not a million bases built by players on BF5 maps. What is your virtual memory set to?
How would I check that?
https://cdn.techjourney.net/2008/02/virtual-memory.jpg This is a screenshot of the panel you need to find. These are not the settings I want you to set, it's just an example. It's found in Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings > https://www.geeksinphoenix.com/blog/images/Performance-Options-dialog-box-inside-of-Windows-10.jpg
i found it
Okay, how much space is free on C: and on D: ? We're going to set a specific value but I need to know what you've got first.
C: has 57315MB and D:[New Volume] has 766317MB
Is your C: drive an SSD or an HDD?
the c: is crucial i think if that helps idk if i know how to find it
Okay, I'm going to assume your C: drive is an SSD and not a spinning drive. Before we make any changes to your computer, I have a question: When you play Rust, and you suffer performance drops after a few minutes, do you close memory-hungry programs like web browsers before launching Rust?
I use discord and yes/no i think sometimes i do sometimes i dont
Discord can use lots of memory so what I'd suggest is closing and reopening Discord to trim it down to only what it needs. I'd like to suggest trying that and making sure you've closed your browser, see if Rust does the same thing. My current theory is that your performance is going down as Rust maxes out your system memory and starts pushing into the virtual memory, which is currently hosted on C:. The overhead in having to push other programs into the virtual memory slows down Rust's ability to process the next frame because it needs to wait for Windows to reallocate memory for it to use. It could be other factors, but it seems like that might be involved. By reducing how much memory other running programs are using, you might delay Rust running your system out and might even be lucky enough to not spill over and hit the performance drop. So I'd like you to test if anything changes by closing browsers and restarting Discord and trying Rust again on the same full servers you had this problem on before. If it still bogs down at about the same time, welp, might be something else.
ok I will try
