https://news.sky.com/story/ministers-vow-to-back-brexit-delay-to-avoid-no-deal-defying-pm-11645264 It looooooks like next week is gonna finally be the point where this shit falls apart and parliament has to step in and extend Article 50, whether or not Theresa May is onboard. There have been a few previous times when it looked like that was about to happen, but now we're getting people inside May's own cabinet openly saying they will defy her.
God, I really hope they come around and just cancel the whole thing. We didn't need to see how much of a bad idea it was. Yet here we are, two years in and our only country a few weeks away from the noose.
It'll be hilarious if we just stay in a perpetual state of "leaving but not really" till the end of time.
So what? Are they gonna get more time to try and renegotiate a deal the EU already said no to any further renegotiation?
weak and unstable is what the uk really wanted all along, right?
Hey, give May some credit, Strong and Stable at least has alliteration. "Weak and wonky" works better
Essentially delay until everyone gives up and accepts May's deal, as pretty everyone but the real fanatics now understand the no deal would be catastrophic for the country. May's deal isn't great, its worse than what we have now. But the country is less likely to burn down if we take it.
Well this is a small glimmer of hope... but at this point I'm a little jaded on the subject...
There are two plans on the table atm which may be voted on next week Most of the excitement is around the Cooper-Letwin amendment, which would force Theresa May to ask the EU to extend Article 50 (I don't think we know how long the extension would be??). This looks increasingly likely to pass. Not so likely to pass is the Kyle-Wilson amendment, which says 'parliament approves Theresa May's Brexit deal, but only if a second referendum is held and voters approve it' - the referendum would be May's Deal vs Cancel Brexit, with No Deal taken off the table Of course the problem is that extending A50 doesn't really solve any of the real problems with Brexit. I reckon it's entirely possible they'll extend A50 by something like six months, and then six months down the line we'll be back where we are right now. And then who knows.
Should pass the Kyle-Wilson amendment. I have a gut feeling Brits will rather decisively vote remain now that they've seen the absolute clusterfuck that simply preparing to leave has caused. This is nothing compared to the actual Brexit fallout, too.
I just want this shit to end, please, for the love of god at bare fucking minimum take no deal off the table
I mentioned it before in another thread but I wouldn't be surprised if delaying Brexit gets done ad-nauseum to the point of becoming a weird tradition because no party wants to face the backlash from backing out.
It's the political version of Jack Black's youtube: "Sorry Brits, still no Brexit this week. Next week I PROMISE"
