Really though, despite that mystery, I'll sure as Hell take this over "Serial baby anal shredder takes 8457th victim, plows through orphanage with a mail truck, gets 5 minutes in jail, runs for congress and wins" type of upsetting news that seems to get plastered everywhere all the time.
Amusing light-hearted news is good.
If you want a practical reason, the original story came from WEHT, a local television studio serving the area in which the events occurred. It's a bit of coverage that fits in with WEHT's focus on local news, but I have no idea why The Straits Times chose to (re)report it.
Otherwise, enjoy it and move on when you're ready. it's sweet and funny and gives you a reason to smile. It'll be forgotten by tomorrow, but it's nice for today.
