Yeah on a Piano. Try that on a guitar in 4 minutes.
A good musician is always fucking terrifying to see because they can do shit like this.
I remember this music teacher I knew, he was a classically trained pianist and transitioned to jazz stuff, looking back I'm guessing that he had perfect pitch or similar as well like this girl does. One time he picked up a mandolin and after a few minutes just playing up and down and getting used to the feel of it in his hands as well as the base notes of the open strings, he was already getting into running through old jazz standards. It did sound weird coming from a mandolin but it really blew me away how once you reach that level of understanding of music, it's just a math that you can quickly attune to regardless of the thing generating the tone, now to improve he would've needed to properly practise and learn the most efficient method of playing and the muscle memory, but still it fucked with my head back then.
It's more relative pitch than perfect pitch, being able to play a note and judge intervals between them, then after practice you know enough to improv through most songs. A lot of times on piano or guitar I'll hear a series of notes while noodling and figure out the phrase to another song. Also I think I heard that perfect pitch is really, really rare and there's a lot of debate about its authenticity.
Don't be this guy

The missed notes on the final attempt hurt my soul a bit, but I'm absolutely flabbergasted by how she just picked this up from ONE listen? Musicians are fucking terrifying superhumans.
I can't even begin to imagine what was going through her mind when she was listening to the song and analyzing how it works. Also love how she went from "oh i'm so gonna die" to playing the damn thing pretty damn well in like 2 minutes.
what the fuck
Perfect pitch is undoubtedly real but it's rare because it only develops if you learn an instrument or sing a lot before you're 6-8. I have good relative and a bit of perfect, but it is something I have become better at over the years of improv.
my jaw dropped when she started playing the chorus without the song in the background.
absolutely amazing and talented
This is amazing.
I think synesthesia (when it's with sound) and perfect pitch go together pretty often. I know someone who has both, though she doesn't have 25 years of musical experience. When I first found out she add it I asked so many questions because it's such a bizarre thing to me. Apparently my voice is an olive green color to her.
She didn't even get to the actual chorus
But in all seriousness I did a tiny bit of piano when I was younger, never really learned proper musical technique but relative pitch is something that is surprisingly easier to attain than one might expect. Music is amazing because of the fact that you can get such amazing sounds from patterns that are kind of... hardwired into our ears, I guess? If anyone here is thinking of picking up an instrument please do it, for me it was like an entire world that was under the surface finally revealing itself to me
She was trying to tell you that you needed a mint
Yeah, I play guitar like crazy and I only need maybe a few minutes to know where the notes are on a keyboard before I get it down. Despite my absolute love for it though, I still cannot figure out saxophones. It's crazy how similar guitar and piano are sometimes.
Crazy stuff.
On a side note, how do you feel being the last video post in General?
There's a burning in my heart
We're banished from a time in a fallen land
To a life beyond the stars
