Veteran journalist and Donald Trump biographer David Cay Johnston weighed in on the president’s mental health and fitness for office in an interview with The Intercept published
Thursday.
According to Johnston, Trump is a “clear and present danger” to the United States, and to the world. The journalist — who has been covering Donald Trump since the 1980s — said that
Trump believes that he is genetically superior and smarter than everyone else, which is why he has long held the belief that he should be running the entire world, and not just the
United States.
“Donald has always been deeply mentally ill. He literally believes that he should be running not just the U.S. but the whole world, that the rest of us are all fools and idiots, and that he
is genetically superior.”
Johnston explained that the Trump family believes in the “horse race breeding theory of genetics,” which is why the president frequently claims to be an expert on various subjects he
is actually not at all familiar with.
Alright, the game we play next then is which drugs he's most likely abusing.
My money's on ketamine or something similar, considering how he talks.
No way.
Cocaine if anything.
Cocaine or Adderall. These are the two most likely drugs of abuse for Trump.

Nah, ketamine is a dissociative and can make movement difficult. If he is on something, a stimulant such as amphetamine seems more likely. I think he is most likely just stupid and narcissistic though, rather than on something.
Let's not forget he's on a potentially fatal amount of caffeine.
I know he drinks a lot of coke but there's a lot less caffeine in coke than in coffee. It's a bit more comparable to tea.
ketamine really?
I know people who have taken ketamine and trump encompasses none of the traits.
I did the math.
He claims to push his "Diet Coke button" a dozen times a day. If we assume he drinks a dozen cans of Diet Coke a day, and they are full-sized cans and not the baby cans, then Diet Coke's nutritional value label tells us that a dozen Diet Cokes are 550mg of caffeine.
550mg of caffeine is a little short of the 600mg you'd get if you drank three Five-Hour Energy shots. Or more than five regular cans of Red Bull.
The President's own public statements expose his caffeine addiction. He's a stimulant junkie, and it would not surprise me to learn that he was doing something else on top of the caffeine.
In one go, 550mg is an OD, but caffeine is not dangerous assuming one doesn't pass the threshold. Main issue with his usage levels is that he'd get a stonking headache if he stopped, but that amount of caffeine a day is safe, just ill-advised.
Isn’t Trump like hardcore straight edge? Probably just had a manic personality disorder, narcisss, grandiosity.
my uncle is like that, he’s pretty old but still has insane amounts of energy not because he’s on drugs but because he’s psychotic.
He’s doesn’t drink, that’s about all he’s said on the matter.
Back when he got elected I remember a guy I work with telling me about how the whole "thinking he's genetically superior" thing but I didn't think it was serious.
IIRC he's still been spotted with a glass of champagne a time or two.
and yet this line of reasoning is what I think the GOP has been conditioning people to believe in for decades. White people are superior, and Trump being rich means he's the most superior white person, so of course everybody else is below him in a linear view, but that's not how the world is. I might be better at engineering than my doctor is but I don't for a moment believe I'm superior to him.
I don't honestly think Trump is smart enough to realize champagne has alcohol in it.
Lots of people claim to be straight edge in public while doing fucktons of drugs in private.
I wish.
Sadly, it's about as potentially fatal as Trump being potentially a good president.
The bigger danger, according to Trump’s biographer, is the fact that many of the president’s supporters believe that he is indeed an expert and the fact that the majority of Americans — unlike Canadians or Europeans, for instance — do not have critical thinking skills.
I feel like this is the most important takeaway going forward but to be honest, critical thinking skills aren't being put to great use in the UK either.
it's ok because UK is part of europe :downs:
He's a narcissists, but narcissism isn't considered a metal illness, rather a metal disorder. Sociopathy for example is a disorder, not a metal illness.
Maybe it's the american "smart british accent" subconscious bias here but: the misinformation and disinformation campaigns I've seen in the UK are outwardly worded in a more articulate and detailed way. Americans have a lot more stuff that borders on biblical literalism in it's level of ideological absolutism.
Our politicians very rarely outright insult each other. They've had years of practice at getting underhanded jabs in without being called out for it as you kinda need to learn that quickly if you're taking part in Parliament. It's dishonourable to directly insult the opposition, or a fellow MP. And for all the awful shit a lot of our MPs get up to, they still want to keep the illusion of being honourable and "the better man" by not resorting to blatant insults.
It's fucking awful, but I would rather this than the shit we see with US political attack ads. The closest thing to a televised attack ad I can recall seeing over here was the Leave campaign ads during the Brexit referendum, which stopped just shy of calling anyone who even tolerates the EU "enemies of the state". The tabloids picked up that slack for them a few months later though!
running a country without stims is hard. Many presidents have had shit sleep schedules, ie 4/5 hours per night.
I think that is a bit of a stretch. 550 isn't really that much above the average 400. Some people are more sensitive to caffeine than others. I know I can take pre-workout with 300mg and then drink energy drink with another 300mg and be fine. The only time I feel like shit is if I don't properly hydrate.
I work with someone who even drinks one of the weaker energy drinks and she is super jittery, drinking one of the ones that I drink made her physically feel ill. I think it really depends all on tolerances.
Trump is a nut case for sure, but I think it is a bit over the top to say because he drinks a lot of caffeine he likely does drugs. A lot of people get addicted to different things doesn't necessarily mean they would do drugs.
Completely separate from his caffeine habit are allegations that he is doing drugs he isn't talking about. These are, of course, just that - allegations - but it's not merely because he ingests lots of caffeine.
I think my eyes bled reading that first sentence.
There's the fact that his personal doctor was accused of getting in trouble for passing pills out like candy on flights without considering patient medical histories, his constant sniffing during the presidential debates, some unusual mannerisms, etc
It isn't proven but there's certainly some credence to the idea
I know he's not healthy, but if Trump is 300lbs +, I'll eat a fucking MAGA hat.
