I believe there's a few adapters for the Vita's Memory card slot that lets it take Micro SD cards
As a former owner, I put the blame more on having not enough killer games for it and Sony giving up on it fairly quickly.

Maybe things are different now, but when I hacked mine, an existing memory card was needed to install CFW and in turn load the necessary drivers to use an SD2VITA.
Still, it's a hell of a lot cheaper getting a 4GB Vita memory card, an SD2V, and a microSD to go with it than getting a decently sized memory card.
This probably would have been before we had access to ur0, which is just internal memory.
The Vita 1000 models claim they have no internal memory, but there's 2GB sitting in there that's not even used for anything
You need it for the 1000 model, but later models came with internal memory built in, so you don't need it for those.

I don't understand why Sony shafted the Vita so hard. The psp was great, even with it's faults. Then they spent all that money and time into developing a new, stronger model that's better in literally every way and just... Did nothing with it. Millions down the drain for no reason. It's not like there isn't a want for mobile consoles anymore, we all know how popular Switches and even the DS still are.
I don't get it.
It really saddens me that so little came of the Vita. It was my first hand-held console since the Gameboy and I thought for sure it'd sell me on the concept, but all I've been using it for is basically a slightly better Monster Hunter platform on the go.
I remember asking around forums for which games to get and finding not so much recommendations as cautions against which games to not waste money on. It mystifies me how a fancy new game console could have so little going for it.

I recently picked up a used Vita and homebrewed it and it's loads of fun honestly. If Sony didn't abandon it so early I really could see the Vita having become a kinda "Sony Switch" years before the actual Switch. (The mystery port on the top of the 1000 models was probably a video out)
Though these days you can use plugins to "overclock" for better fps and stream video out of USB, pair it with bluetooth controller plugins and you basically have that just as the homebrew edition.
Just an fyi for everyone in the thread: going full-width in your preferences on FP will fix the shaking. I haven't seen it once since going full-width like a few months ago.

On the thread topic, I never owned a Vita, but maaaybe in the not too distant future... it's fun making technology yours. I once ssh'd into a PS2 that my friend had set up an official Linux kit on, and although that was more like "huh this is neat" than anything practical, I can still say that I've executed commands on a PS2.

While this does mean that the Vita is completely “owned”, there is still a distinction to make between being able to decrypt code and being able to execute it on the device. The latter heavily relies on another type of security called “asymmetric cryptography”, which, when implemented properly, is impossible to break without pure brute-force (because it relies on private signing keys that only Sony themselves have). Therefore the only “universal” way to run code on any firmware is via Yifan’s BootROM glitching, which technically gives you the freedom to run almost anything you want on your device, all the while being a very impractical “modchip on steroids” solution. As it stands, the most accessible ways to hack your Vita and run HENkaku on it are still software-triggered exploit chains such as h-encore, and you still have to wait for new exploit chains to be released for your firmware. This was previously mentioned in the context of a possible F00D hack: hacking lower levels of the PS Vita security is not directly associated with what we understand as a “Vita CFW”, but mostly serves the purpose of demonstrating how to crack even the toughest “nuts” of the device’s security.
