So did anyone know this was happening? https://youtu.be/eudsYr0iER0 and where the animals at, maybe still working on the CG?
Possibly, but might also hide that intentionally to surprise people that don't know about the books.
I saw this earlier. The BBC and HBO teamed up to make Rome, one of my favourite shows, so I look forward to it. What's it actually about?
I'm excited for this for NDA'd reasons, really looking forward to it!
His Dark Materials is a trilogy of novels about the struggles of a young girl Lyra and her daemon (basically, familiar), and later also a boy named Will, caught up in a series of vast church/government plots that they are somehow connected to, often involving forces from other dimensions and traveling through parallel worlds. The universe is parallel to our own but includes tons of fantastic elements (witches, magic, daemons) as well as frank realizations of real-world politics, religion, and aristocracy, presented with a very cynical tone. Much of the plot concerns the use of science and philosophy to challenge dogma and Catholic lore--which is given a similar amount of weight as the presence of magic and talking animals. It's a wild ride and gets very dark toward the end of the series. Considering the 2007 adaptation of the first book The Golden Compass never got sequels, I'm optimistic about a TV approach. This is apparently being done by Bad Wolf, who were behind "The Night Of," so, I'm holding out some hope.
Sounds awesome! I seem to remember The Golden Compass movie wasn't well received but I have faith in HBO. They're good at dark.
Oh yeah I really didn't like Artemis Fowl
I see approximately zero Daemons in that teaser.
Judging by both the lack of Daemons and polar bears as well as a lack of release date, I'm going to guess that the CGI for those specific things aren't in a finished state so they're just showing the scenes where they aren't there (which to be honest is probably going to be a minority of scenes, since almost every single character in the first book has a Daemon nearby at all times)
Man I'm so excited for this, I was pretty bummed that the 2007 adaptation never got more releases. One of my favourite series as a kid.
I really don't think Disney would have the balls to release the two sequels with their anti-organized religion content.
I was barred from reading these books as a child and I've always wanted to see a proper film or TV adaptation. The Golden Compass didn't really hit the mark on a lot of the themes and was just kinda 'eh'.
I swear that the people who made The Golden Compass movie must not have read the sequels. The series goes places that I'm 100% sure would cause massive controversy if the sequels were made
Am I remembering correctly that in the final book there is a scene where god literally dies? I haven't read these books since I was like 13
I’ve not read the books myself, but nonetheless you might want to tag that.
The books are really a great read and were one of my childhood favourites. I've been looking forward to a proper film/tv adaptation of them for a long time.
Darth_Kris, the thing about that is that the God that the main antagonist group of angels are worshiping is actually an incredibly old being who is dying of old age, not the actual creator of the universe. "Dust", the particles that keep everything in balance, is actually shown to be sapient and refers to itself as "angels" as well. So there are good and bad angels. If I remember everything that is, I haven't read these books in a long time.
Ah that's what it was, all i remembered was that there was someone referred to as God that died of old age
