President Donald Trump wants you to save this date: July 4, 2019.
In a Saturday morning Twitter announcement, the president promised "one of the biggest gatherings in the history of Washington, D.C." will be held at the Lincoln Memorial in
celebration of America's birthday this summer.Trump promises "an address by your favorite President, me!"
"A Salute to America" promises a celebration with a major fireworks display, entertainment and, of course, the speech from Trump. The fireworks are expected to be the same ones set
off annually by the National Park Service, The Associated Press reports.
Details are sparse at this point, but Trump has been dropping hints about a big 4th of July blowout. Earlier in the week, he suggested the ceremony could "become, perhaps, a tradition."
This is never gonna be not equal parts funny and pathetic.
Hmmm I wonder what salute he has in mind?
And when the fireworks start, Lincoln's head gets blown off and from it emerges the head of the the no.1 president of all time.

After a year long break from announcing obscure US holidays in a way that seemed like he was taking credit for their existence, he's moving up to trying to take credit for known holidays. While the potential of Independence Day is bad I am not looking forward to how he spins Columbus Day, Thanksgiving or Christmas to look like they were his ideas all along.

If you live in the area and want to see a really good show that's fun and not too crowded, go to Mount Vernon the Saturday before. You can do a nice tour of the mansion, have a beer and a hotdog in George Washington's back yard, and see some beautiful fireworks over the potomac at night. I went to the DC for 4th of July and I've gone to Mt. Vernon, and Mt. Vernon is definitely the nicer show.
