https://www.foxnews.com/politics/gop-reps-refer-ex-trump-attorney-michael-cohen-to-doj-for-alleged-perjury-during-hearing Rep. Jim Jordan, R-OH, and Mark Meadows, R-NC, said they sent a letter referring President Trump's former attorney Michael Cohen to the Department of Justice for perjury and knowingly making false statements. The letter said, in part, that Cohen's testimony "was a spectacular and brazen attempt to knowing and willfully testify falsely and fictitiously to numerous material facts. His testimony included intentionally false statements designed to make himself look better on a national stage. Mr. Cohen's prior conviction for lying to Congress merits a heightened suspicion that he has yet again testified falsely before Congress." Will change source when a new one appears

I fucking knew it'd be those two before I even opened the page.
The attempts to muddy the waters continue even after the hearing. I'd be impressed if their allegations ended up holding weight, but in the end I doubt they care overly much. The primary purpose of this was to get this headline on FOX, and they've managed that splendidly. All in the defense of the most corrupt holder of executive office this country has ever seen. Republicans should be ashamed of what they're doing to their own country.
Maybe you dipshits should be referred for perjury instead given your farce during his testimony.
If you have narcisstic personality traits, or a personality disorder, it can be hard to demonstrate accountability. If not otherwise present, they just involve personality or empathetic deficits. Then again, american exceptionalism itself counts as a disease, considering that in their society very few people are willing to help another person where possible, but are willing to front 20 million for a useless wall.
Hey look the GOP is ignoring all the leads Cohen gave them that they could follow up on in favor of justifying inaction so that Trump can continue his farce of a presidency. I get that Cohen is damaged goods, but there's so much willful ignorance as to WHY he's damaged goods. He was part of Trump's inner circle and was covering Trump's ass.
They can't even keep their facts straight on the face of it. Disappointing. "“Cohen denied committing various fraudulent acts that he has pleaded guilty to in federal court,” they wrote, specifically referring to Cohen’s statement that he “never defrauded any bank.” The letter cited Cohen’s plea agreement with prosecutors at SDNY, where it refers to his crimes as “bank fraud.” Cohen has pleaded guilty to five counts of tax evasion, one count of making false statements to a banking institution, one count of causing an unlawful corporate contribution, and one count of excessive campaign contributions." In other words: "Did you plea to bank fraud?" "No, I pleaded to making false statements to a banking institution." "LIAR! You pleaded to bank fraud!" Other things GOP Representatives attempted during that hearing: Asserting that Cohen was 'hiding evidence' from the Federal Justice Department when questioned about 'why he hadn't given boxes of evidence to investigators' in reference to boxes that were seized by Federal Investigators and then returned to Cohen. Asserting that any statements made by a known liar are lies and are therefore disgraceful to air into the Congressional Record. Stating that he 'lied on forms submitted to Congress' regarding that he worked for an 'extranational company' and didn't disclose it when, in fact, the form being referred to specifically requires the disclosure of any work he did for 'extranational governmental companies' - which none of the companies the GOP listed were (they were all privately owned and operated). Moving the date of the hearing itself to a later date because 'Cohen hadn't submitted his testimony and evidence 24 hours in advance as he was working with the body late into the night regarding things that they requested of him'. Things GOP Representatives did not attempt during that hearing: Disputing the evidence Cohen brought Questioning whether or not Trump signed that check that was presented Having any interest at all in finding corroborating witnesses to his testimony
I want to testify in front of any committee Jim Jordan is a part of so any time I'm speaking to him I can throw in a quip about how he allowed sexual abuse to run rampant and did nothing about it. Probably would get me thrown in jail but it's nice to dream
Republicans are fucking pinko fascists who honestly don't deserve the freedom and liberty they take for granted tbh. They can still have said freedom and liberty, it's a basic right, but they sure don't act like they deserve it.
This is something that someone so completely and absolutely buttdestroyed would do. What a shitshow, starring two grade-A turds.
Knew this was going to happen after that "Foreign contacts thing", were he was trying to put words in Cohen's mouth This is what a perfectly sane and reasonable democracy looks like
At first I didn't think they'd actually go for perjury charges, but come to think of it this is pretty clever. The GOP narrative is that Cohen is a pathological liar, who is being propped up by (((them))) to defame Trump and enrich himself. If they try him for perjury and the judge strikes it down, well guess what the judges are in on it too! And if the judges are in on it then surely they can't be trusted to weigh in on any of Trump's supposed crimes!
Jim Jordan and Mark Meadows are bottom of the barrel bootlicking scum tbh. Insane for the hearing to end up a "defense brigade for Trump" on the GOP side of things, instead of, you know, a hearing, and these two were the worst of the lot.
Refer Jim Jordan and Mark Meadows to the DOJ for treason.
It's a shame these GOP reps aren't liable for charges under criminal mischief laws.
These dumb bastards wanted to talk about a Democrat agenda, then proceeded to just shit on the guy and insist he was going to get a book or movie deal after his prison sentence. Honestly, if I was Cohen I'd happily take a book or movie deal after my sentence, because it's my fucking life and to hell with anyone saying I can't make money from totally legal avenues. Like, that really bothered me that was what a lot of them railed on about like fucking morons.
Did the GOP even know why they were there? They had this opportunity to dig into the guy who was closest to Trump, who's entire inner circle has been criminally charged, convicted, or made plea deals, and while the democrats asked questions to further help these cases, the GOP just jerked off on Cohen's face because it turns them on so much to slander the 'other side'
They knew exactly why they were there: To give Fox News and Sinclair Broadcasting and Breitbart and the rest of the right-wing media apparatus their sound bites of Cohen being a scummy lying criminal who goes on fishing trips with Satan and the Mafia. They weren't interested in the truth, they were interested in setting the narrative. Not a single Republican asked about Cohen's relationship with Hannity (considering Trump's bromantic marriage to Hannity). Not a single Republican was interested in going down any of the rabbit holes Cohen revealed about Trump, his campaign, his transition team, his businesses, his family, his falsehoods contradicted by Cohen's supplied hard evidence, or his real motives for running for President. The only thing about Trump anyone cared about arguing over was disputing that Trump was a racist, something Cohen could only give verbal testimony to. They weren't even interested in investigating ratholes Cohen exposed about other people. They were there to assassinate Michael Cohen's character on live television. And they discovered the folly of trying to shame a criminal for crimes he's already confessed to and been convicted over. The only people who're going to be convinced that Cohen's a scummy lowlife who can't be trusted and should be ignored are Republican voters who were already inclined to believe. On the other hand it is equally unlikely that people in opposition to Trump were likely to consider Cohen an untrustworthy rat and his testimony against Trump to be disregarded. The fight's over the squishy middle between the locked-in bases.
They're just trying to grab on to anything they possibly can to frame Cohen as a greedy opportunist. And frankly he probably is, but seeing as he would face additional years in prison for lying to Congress that doesn't have much bearing on his credibility, especially since he provided documentary evidence of Trump's criminality. As always, this is as much a political battle as a legal one. Republicans are trying to kill two birds with one stone: Not only are they trying to silence a key witness against Trump, they are also trying to use the possibility of future book and movie deals against his credibility.
It should be noted that Cohen (and likely others) were instructed not to talk about things or people that are involved with other still-ongoing investigations. Hannity is one of them
