It's unclear from the other article who fired the first shot in the recent engagement, but after hearing that India conducted airstrikes in Pakistan in response to their planes being shot down, one has to wonder if Pakistan is doing this as a form of capitulation. The difference in the military capabilities of the two countries is so massive it's not even sporting, and Pakistan usually conducts its proxy warfare by asymmetric means - usually sending radicalized Islamist suicide bombers and militias to conduct attacks against civilian targets.
I honestly want to believe it's because Pakistan doesn't want a war rather than because they know they'd be fucked. I can imagine that if they were up for it they'd fight to the last man even if the odds were against them.
This had started because India had conducted bombing raids in Pakistani territory namely a terrorist training camp (Pakistan supporting terrorism? Surprising I know) which was in retaliation for a suicide bombing conducted in Kashmir killing 40 Indian soldiers. Which has since then has erupted into the air war you are familiar with.

So that's how it happened. Huh. Thanks, Wasabi.
