Thank you for bringing this to my attention, bears will have their vision buffed to 1 whole square as intended by next patch. Easier maths to work with a whole than a half. Cheers.

Just carry building plan(blueprint) and place simple fundament when it chasing you. That easy kill it with a spear or some bow.

That said... both bears & wolf have highly tuned sense of smell, they should easily pick you up from 3 or 4 squares away if you passed the area.....
Just depends on your level of realism.

After my 1st wipe have had no issues evading any NPC. Wolves are worse than bears, as they see you farther, attack more readily, are faster than a bear, and can climb rocks that bears cannot.

If a bear is coming for you, you ran up on him.

Best advice I can give is.. if you do not have a firearm... WALK. Running gets you into trouble every time.

Speed and Greed get you dead more than anything else.
