They look like a mix of a VRChat model import and like someone really wants to go for some sort of clay-like style. The same for the Pokemon, but at least we get so many CGI trailers for games and shit with Pokemon nowadays that they don't look that jarring.
The first movie wasn't that great when I push my nostalgia aside, but boy oh boy trying to recreate the hype of the 90's in CGI will never look right.

This looks like a 1:1 remake of the original. Why? It looks really bad in this 3D art style. They could have gone the live action route ala Detective Pikachu, which isn't the best but it's better.

This makes me feel weird. Like they're super tiny toys that animate.

Pokemon: The First Movie turns 20 this year, on November 6th. That is likely why they're remaking it.
