Despite the memes that Roblox has, I have some heavy nostalgia from Roblox between 2007-2012. I ocasionally revisit some older games with a group of friends. The ones that still work at least
Oof
Roblox is actually extremely impressive, both in terms of a business and the quality of the platform.
yeah i remember losing my virginity on roblox
Roblox is a great way for kids to experiment with creativity and social interaction. I absolutely loved it in middle school. That said, I think its quality is slightly undermined by its monetization scheme. They gotta make money, I get it, but these days you're locked out of so much stuff unless you pay for a subscription.
Roblox is a legit games platforms nowadays, it actually has a slick Call of Duty clone that feels better than a lot of AAA shooters out there. https://youtu.be/EFPqjQFEpF8
I'll give some 10 dollars if they can give me back my account
lololol ask @_RIley about that. I'd like to note that if you look into it, there's some pretty nuts money laundering going through roblox.
I actually like phantom forces and unturned because there's almost no clutter, every player animation is well displayed, no slick animations just a gun and dudes to shoot. If only the communities didn't suck I'd play them more.
Doesn't surprise me, I mean it's an insanely successful platform that has amazing development tools for a hobby game maker. It's probably very satisfying and rewarding to work at a place like that. As people posted above the game dev tools' capabilities are pretty extensive. People have not only made amazing things, but have made a living on these games because you can exchange Robux for real money: Roblox Like, there are legit millionaires off of this game, and no doubt it's inspired a generation of passionate indie developers. I've been playing on-and-off since 07, and it's kinda insane to see how far the game has come.
It's surreal thinking that Roblox is even a real thing whenever I see memes like this tbh http://pm1.narvii.com/6881/852aafd708a8b51554779573d67c4026fb9769a8r1-333-301v2_00.jpg
Still upset I can't get my 07 account back. Apparently the verified email (That was on the account for most of its life), was not sufficient enough. Roblox was an amazing game however. The creativity drive around it made for a very friendly and easy to work with Garrysmod in a way.
https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/657/846518db-9e05-4da3-b56b-d6b010358319/image.png I absolutely love Phantom Forces, though it's basically child abuse when I play it.
my dad works at robolox dude, he can get you banned.
pretty damn fun yea. phantom forces has been my go-to game for when i just want to shoot dudes. booting up roblox and being thrown into a game basically instantly is lovely
oh no im worse than children
i bought myself builders club so i could make my own shirt on my 11 year old account but sadly https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/107138/e97ae7fc-d233-4394-bac7-cdcbc91b6b37/Anikishirt.png but sadly https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/107138/087afb22-8e00-4e21-a2b6-c08e331529c5/image.png they rekt me however mods are more than fine with the shit ton of creepy ass underage dating and borderline illegal gambling/microtransaction shit that goes on on the site tho the game is a shell of it's former self now. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/107138/cafbbd67-b3c8-4256-a033-6ad6deffd2db/image.png these are the top 8 games. I crossed out every single one that wasn't some RP or clone. (Jailbreak and mad city are literally the same game) all of them are very predatory when it comes to the microtransactions. "Buy this 5000 robux pass and look SUPER cool!" Phantom forces absolutely deserves to be number 1. It's incredible what the dev team has made using only roblox tools. It has lootboxes, but those contain only skins. Roblox devs are pushing for this game to be super child friendly, but in reality it's just painting over what's underneath, which is the dead shell of a game now promoting weird shit and addictive content.
Roblox is probably the ideal platform for people who want to get started in game development.
I remember back in the glory days of Blockland and its mods, Roblox was like the wierd kid who would always space out and eat glue.
Yep, after playing a bit more yesterday I have to admit it feels pretty great to curbstomp but really it's the guns that really make the game distinguish itself from other shooter out there. They just feels meaty. By the way, we do have a thread and discord for the game if that's your kind of thing: Roblox Phantom Forces
Any system that allows the transfer of funds from one private party to another will always fall victim to money laundering.
Yeah i remember the blockland vs roblox "drama" back in '08 haha., my BLID 6380 is my phones pin code to this day
Roblox, for me and many others, had been one of the go to games in the 2000s and early 2010s. I think it stood among the ranks of Club Penguin and Blockland for how much fun I had as a kid playing them. I also think it shared a common interest with those games in allowing a place for many to be creative and socialize with others. Back when I used to play frequently (2005-2013) I enjoyed my time playing the many interesting and unique places robloxians would come up with. However, as time went on; the monetization creep began to take over. no longer were there items being released for tix (a.k.a. Tickets, which was the ingame currency that you could get without paying; they were eventually removed entirely), they made certain items limited commodities that could only be sold by previous owners; which would usually be at insanely high prices, and they added features like trading items but relegated them exclusively to Builders Club (paid subscription with 3 tiers that gives you more features). To get pretty much any item in Roblox today, you have to pay. And unfortunately, this soon was and still is the motto for many top places too. As a couple of you guys have mentioned in this thread already, there are exploitative places that try to lure kids into spending money. As someone who has tried them, they are usually pretty shallow as games or they are concepts that have been done by others numerous times; basically, they aren't too original and are more intent on gettings kids to spend money. Not to mention the fact that there are places that require builders club to even be played/entered. But, for as much wallet shaking and manipulating there are just as many wonderful things have been done to the game's actual engine and tools. For example the lighting, environment detail/complexity, and water effects have really been updated over the years. This is especially apparent in some newer Roblox places. And that isn't even taking into account the extensive additions they have made to avatars (without completely replacing the original blocky models we all know and love). So while the community and game monetization may be a little iffy, I'd still say the core game has a solid and impressive foundation.
Now I know why why proboardslol lost his virginity in Roblox.
