https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-47414870 But the Scottish Parliament would decide within its first term when to introduce a separate Scottish currency.
it should have the euro or the pound. honestly, what can be gained from a new, separate currency other than shitty exchange rates?
Sounds pointless and possibly detrimental but ok.
As long as they put Mel Gibson on the bank notes I'm down.
Call it the Scottish gibson in honour of their #1 hero. Each gibson divides into 100 mels
An independent Scotland is Euro or die.
accepted everywhere but israel
This sounds like a legitimately terrible idea and a great way to create an economic slump that could be very very easily avoided.
I feel like this may be a way to help convince the voters to vote for the referendum that will come eventually. Non-Brits on the whole probably won't know this, but the lack of the pound was a big part of of the eventual result of the referendum campaign, and it was effective. 34% of Scots also voted to Brexit so a significant portion would be against that reality would be disconcerted
The SNP have to be some of the biggest hypocrites around. They will tell Westminster to respect the Scottish peoples vote on Brexit, while telling Scots that voted to stay in the UK they are going to have another vote on independence.
I mean to be fair circumstances are changing pretty drastically. If anything you can say that it actually rather makes sense that because the Scottish peoples vote on Brexit is being overpowered then you have pretty solid grounds for another vote on independence.
I'm having a hard time believing that this is anything other than a nationalistic move. I can understand the want for independence but if you are going to do that be sensible and use the Euro or something.
Rather they just went with the Euro if it meant avoiding any hardship, to be honest.
Scotland voted to remain part of the UK based on the UK staying in the EU. If Brexit does go ahead, I'll gladly take a second Scottish independence referendum if it means staying in the EU, and using the Euro (any new currency system will be doomed to fail, the Euro is a good solution to the currency problem if Scotland were to go independent from the UK). I'd much rather risk Scotland leaving the UK, and staying in the EU rather than staying in the UK and being out of the EU.
Scotland adopting the Euro would be absolutely amazing and I support it 100%
It can be a bit risky, alota small countries that adopted the Euro early on like the baltic states had and to some degree still do have a hard time with inflated living costs. Loafs of bread suddenly became more expensive to meet the European standard and the wages didn't raise to meet those standards. That said, Scotland isn't at all like those countries, but it's still enough of a concern to tread carefully.
