But a poster connecting a Muslim congresswoman to the 9/11 terrorist attacks led to heated emotions, caused the resignation of at least one staff member and left another reportedly injured when things got physical as the altercation spilled into the chamber of the West Virginia House of Delegates. The poster, at a table in the Capitol’s rotunda, featured an image of freshmen Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) underneath one of the New York’s twin towers burning. “'Never forget’ — You said,” read text placed over the photo of the World Trade Center. “I am the proof you have forgotten,” read the caption over Omar’s image. The body’s sergeant at arms submitted a letter of resignation at the end of the day after being accused of a making an anti-Muslim slur during the dispute, according to West Virginia Public Radio and other local outlets. A doorkeeper was reportedly injured during a dispute with a member over the doors to the chamber. Omar, a refugee from Somalia who immigrated to the United States with her parents when she was young, tweeted that she had been receiving threats recently.

I use self deprecating humor all the time. It's not always a bad thing to point out your own flaws because for some people (like myself) it helps you better yourself.

Absolutely, and that's partly what memes are great at (and partly why they emerged from 4chan, which was the home of self-deprecating ironic shitposting before that subculture got completely fucked). Unfortunately, a lot of people noticed that 'memes are popular lets make memes to make people like us because we're now also doing the popular thing they like' and so they just copied the format without understanding what the underlying subculture was. This is why I'll never forget 9/11. Not because some bad browns killed a bunch of people, but because our government didn't respond to the people responsible for it. No, those people are untouchable due to good ol' American neo-imperalism. Instead the country used 9/11 as an excuse to make military industrial companies rich and let our leaders commit warcrimes freely. I'll never forget what this horrible tragedy did to my country and the traitors that let it happen. I'll also never forget those reasonable rational people who were against this and didn't let terrorists change what they stood for.
