Looking for something to replace my old Corsair K95 (MX Red).
Key Layout:
German full layout (https://i.imgur.com/qdaDfAp.png)
Should probably not an issue for most keyboards but some "exotic" ones usually only come in US/UK or other layouts.
Key Type:
MX Brown would be nice but I'm basically looking for something fast with tactile feedback, I'm not fully up to date on current switches
Size:
Full Size (100%) with numpad
Not the biggest fan of 1800-Compact.
Extras:
Macro keys to the left, not 100% needed, I can do without but with my current K95 I actually do make use of like 10 of the 18 extra keys to launch some apps etc.
Don't need them all so if it only has like 5 or so that would be neat.
Media keys are always nice to have, although I think most have them on a full size keyboard.
Also not needed but a USB passthrough is handy as well.
I don't need fancy RGB lighting although backlight would be good.
Price:
Cheaper the better, 100€ is probably limiting if it isn't blowing up the budget two times or so I might consider it.
Design wise it should not look too gaudy I suppose, hope thats enough info.
I have looked around a bit myself but I thought I get some recommendations as well.
Poker is my brand. They make absurdly good keyboards that are also programmable on layers and without software. If on sale they'd be on budget.
The important thing to remember is to avoid
Any gaming keyboard ever (and anything that needs software)
ABS plastic, its absolute garbage and wears down almost immediately. PBT will last for years even with washing.
Low quality LED boards. Not LED in general, just LED that raises the cost and affects overall quality.
Stay away from G810 or Logitech products in general.
So far I found two that might do it.
Ducky ONE 2 Backlit (or non backlit version), has most of what Im looking for and looks decent.
Ducky is still a decent keyboard maker right?
Somebody else recommended me the Fnatic Gear Rush LED.
Rebranded Func KB-460 which is pretty good as its only 80€.
Still open for other recommendations, might be till next month that I get one.
Their software so bad
Logitech g hub deletes itself every time it updates
And it recently just deleted my profile as well
Logitech gaming software, that's even worse mess
Last I bought them they were fantastic
No doubt that they still are
A default logitech "office" keyboard lasted me 15 years (probably still somewhere in the closet) while the G810 1 year.
So far my choice probably goes in the direction of the Fnatic Gear Rush LED. Mostly because its quite cheap and seems to be doing well, it being a eSport team rebrand aside.
A friend apparently has it and he seems to be quite content with it.
Will still be open for more suggestion as I postponed getting one until next month probably.
Macro keys are not needed anymore, so any regular full size one will do I guess.
can definitely recommend ducky boards.
have an original full sized shine from years ago, still works great.
ye ive got a ducky one 2 and I love it, my only issue is that I can't rebind the calculator key to something else
I have a ducky year of the monkey and a 60% ducky panda . They are both great.
Please make sure that your microphone is at least 14 meters away from it once you get one, or I will personally smack your ass into next Tuesday if I meet you in game.
i use clicky switches and don't wear headphones when i game at home
the trick is to just have a good directional mic
I really like my Corsair K70 LUX with cherry reds. One piece of advice that I learned the hard way: stay as far away from browns as possible. I ordered my first K70 with browns on the assumption that they would strike a nice balance between slippery reds and clicky blues. In reality they just have the drawbacks of both with the benefits of neither. They're too slippery to justify the extra tactile feedback, and too clicky to feel smooth. In practice they feel clunky and unsettling. I ended up returning my first K70 for one with reds instead.
On a side note, the K70 is also easy to clean because the switches are placed above a smooth metal surface instead of recessed into it. I'm a clean freak so I especially appreciate this.
It also has a USB pass-through so you can plug your mouse directly into the keyboard. One less cable to run into your I/O board.
I already tested blues, reds, greens and browns, my current favorites are both reds and browns. I actually enjoy the brown switches because I most of the times am a little excessive with the force I type in keyboards, and the tactile bump helps me slowly adjust myself to not bottoming out the keys (I've had more than one complaint about the sound of me typing in with scissor keyboards or the sound of me tapping away at a mouse). Also I enjoy being able to feel when the key has been hit.
Keep in mind that the non cherry (OUTEMU, Gateron, etc) switches are usually louder and a little bit scratchier than the cherry counterparts, and if you care about sound, their noise profile is noticeably different. I just got OUTEMU Browns on my Magicforce Qisan a few days ago and I really don't mind the keys being a little scratchier and a bit heavier, it still feels pretty good to type in.
I had blues in the past, reds are what Im currently using.
I also have a small 2 key board with browns on them, I do prefer them over reds.
So yea my key choice is not just based on guessing so far.
Kinda expected a few more direct recommendations of keyboards but the general info was nice as well.
So far I probably stick with the Ducky ONE 2, not sure if I take the backlight version or not right now.
Will have to wait till next month anyways about buying it, as I said before till then I'm open for further suggestions.
i love browns, got them on my cm storm quickfire xt. if they still sold them i'd recommend it. zero frills, media keys, super simple design
my work ordered me a das keyboard model s professional with browns. still haven't gotten it yet but it seems really nice, might be another one to consider
I actually ended up with a G.Skill RipJaws KM570 CHERRY MX RGB Brown now.
Should arrive the next days hopefully.
With 78€ its actually fairly cheap and even has full RGB, which was a bit surprising at that price point.
From reviews and everything there seems to be no big issues with the quality of the board or durability of the keys.
To be honest I'm not that worried about wear on keycaps, if they would get really bad you can always just order better ones.
Switches are Cherry MX Brown so nothing should be wrong with them.
Thank you RNG gods
