https://www.reddit.com/r/reddeadredemption/comments/av35eq/this_fucking_update_made_online_even_worse/ Rockstar continues to not fucking learn a single goddamn thing. RDO is turning out more or less just as I expected and I'm glad people are noticing the same pattern as GTAO. I just hope people won't totally forget it by the time RDR2/RDO shits out a PC port without anything fixed to prevent the GTAO PC hacking scene to repeat itself on RDO PC.
There's nothing for them to learn. They pulled this bullshit before, constantly shitting all over the player experience while adding more and more superfluous bullshit to buy with MTX currencies and people screamed at them then. Yet, they keep making ridiculous amounts of money so people growing wise to their bullshit and complaining about it is nothing but background noise to them while they rake in shark cards and gold purchases. GTAO was an absolute piece of shit experience that made Take-Two the most money they've ever seen. So long as their whales keep coughing up cash they have no reason to stop.
I don't think I've ever seen Rockstar listening to fan feedback unless it's something hurting their bottom line. Like, ever. Companies like Rockstar might make big games, but their fan interaction is the equivalent to looking at somebody talking to you, but you have both fingers in your ears.
So in other words, don't even bother playing this game online if/when it hits PC. Guess I should be happy that GTA Online didn't fully go to shit after it hit PC and was still good for a bit. I miss those times, they were fun (outside of the connection issues anyway). Shame there won't be a similar window for RDO. Is the singleplayer even any good? I keep hearing mixed things on it. I'm not expecting it to be as memorable or good as RDR 1's singleplayer, so I've already tempered my expectations.
The singleplayer for RDR2, in my experience, is amazing. There's just so much love and detail poured into the world, and the character interactions are second to none. It's not a perfect game, but it is definitely a great time. I can't think of a game that made me feel more like the main character than RDR2. I don't regret dropping 60 bucks on it despite the fact that I haven't touched it since I beat it.
Tbf rdr2 is more of one and done type experiences because a lot of the fun comes from the story and character interactions.
Rockstar was one of the first AAA devs to put in microtrasactions in that fashion in a full priced game and I'm still mad how they largely got away (and continue to get away) with it.
I knew this would happen. This is what they did with GTA5 and there was no reason to expect them to do anything differently.
The problem is they're doing it so hard at the start of the gate this time around when there's barely any content right now in beta from what I've heard; though I don't I've not played since the online first came out but this is the first big update I've heard about and apparently its awful. It's easier to retain players who have been invested in your ecosystem for longer. Like logically it'd make more sense to wait to really start gouging players until they've attracted as large of a player base as they can, or slowly along the way. Take2 just wants every fucking cent of players money so fuck them I'm not checking out online unless things change.
Although I wish Rockstar wouldn't do this kinda shit with the online aspects of their more recent titles, it's going to keep happening. Buy the games for the singleplayer (because GTA5 and ESPECIALLY RDR2 had amazing storylines) and stop playing it once you get bored. In reality, what would there be to do in an online version of RDR2 except run around killing each other anyway? I don't see the appeal in it, I feel like the novelty of meeting up with a friend and running around with guns killing other people meeting up with friends doesn't sound entertaining for more than a couple of hours. Unless they integrated full co-op multiplayer storylines, which they won't since that effort is devoted to the singleplayer, nothing is going to change.
