I ended up making a second thread, since I think this is important enough to warrant it.

Regardless of whether 8chan is an appropriate place to have an AMA, I think apologizing was the right move to make.
why
Because 8ch is forever stuck with the reputation of 'that place people go when 4chan is too mild', and 4chan already has the reputation of one of the edgiest places not on the deepweb.
They already handled it very poorly and backpedaled immediately. There would be no benefit from trying to sweep it under the rugs.
Better PR to push away from 8chan than to dig deeper into
They shouldnt have to apologize.
Like clockwork
Imagine making a crappy forum for you and your friends to discuss anime at the age of 15 and it evolving into a crossroads for neo nazis, incels, and school shooters to discuss their theories on social darwinism
Gonna wager that most people who enjoy THQ games aren't posting on 8chan
I don't think they should have to apologize because I simply don't believe they're sorry, but I still think they shouldn't have done an AMA on 8ch
gonna wager that most people that play video games dont call for witch hunts or delusional crucifications of developers
and now they will be ripped to shreds
If this was 10 years ago on 4chan, I still would have thought this was a bad idea. Not because it's full of racists, but because it's like televising a press conference in a bar at 1am on a Saturday.
uh probably
If they knowingly put their hand in a fire and get burned, it's not the fire's fault for being hot.
This whole thing was so stupid from the beginning, I don't understand how anyone thought it was a good idea in the first place.
"What's the worst place we could do an AMA? Reddit is too vanilla... we need something fringe"
Apologizing is the worst thing they could do, now the witchhunts feel justified and they won't stop until someone is publicly shamed and fired.
This got me thinking, feel free to disagree. So when you're a higherup/CEO of a game company that's just part of a parent company with investors and sponsors, you're going to be forced to apologize no matter what. When you're that deep into the money machine and into some corporate entity, you have to apologize. Some of those people demanding an apology might just be the same people holding considerable amount of the company or a sponsor etc. Apologizing could be the right thing to do, but ironically it paints them as the biggest target. This is probably half the reason no one made a big fuss when Running With Scissors did an AMA on 8ch, because no one holds them to such vulnerable standards.
like remember when game companies didn't care what they made? s m h

It's even posted in thqnordic-investors
The thing is, Reddit is much more... I can't think of the right word. But like, it's already a verified website along the lines of Facebook and Youtube, etc. Big name actors and companies have all used it to do AMAs.
Whereas somewhere like 8chan/4chan is inherently... well, offensive? Aggressive? Hostile?
I'm sort of rambley and still can't figure out how I'm trying to put this.
I think the people that will be most mad about this continue to be mad regardless of what they do.
Thats dumb and doesnt even work with this situation.
The idea of doing an AMA on 8/4chan and thinking you're going to get anything approaching a sensible question is absurd.
that's not really true at all
you can get sensible questions almost anywhere, it's just a matter of how much noise you have to filter through to get it
Y'know, the AMA isn't something in the distant past forever lost to the sands of time. You can still look it up, or at the very least a backup of it. I think the most consistent thing before everyone else got wind of it and the reactions to that buried everything else was "Would you be able to revive Timesplitters?"
I remember a specific person kept asking questions about a SpongeBob game
and right below that someone was screaming "FUCK N***** FUCK T*****, ect.
How does it make it justified?
Man this is getting a lot of disagrees, so I'll clarify. I'm sure people on 8chan play THQ games but I don't think their broad demographic, their customers post on 8chan. not all rectangles are squares, but all squares are rectangles.
unless someone has evidence pointing otherwise
That's a weird assumption, how do you know that people from that place don't play THQ games? Do you think that they only like some kind of genre, content or something?
You ask for evidence but do you have some on your own to backup what you said?
