And this what happens when you give one minorty more protection than another, rather than putting the foot down on certain aspects.
What? How are LGBT people being given more protection?
Probably the religious. I hope.
no, don't stop damnit, these are things kids need to know about
but it's birmingham
Yes I mean religion. If you want to give LGBT more ground you can't then give into religion. But because this religion is a minority you then face being called a bigot. Fucked if you do, fucked if you don't.
Amazing how you can change the entire composition of the South yet people still fall back on "classic" hate.
This is Birmingham UK
Religious folk are nowhere near a "minority," and even farther from the word "protection" having any relevance to them.
I assume these parents also objected to their children being exposed to content which was not 'age appropriate' like Cinderella and Snow White for presenting complex, adult ideas about heterosexual relationships and marriage.
Lmao fuck 'em. I'd just carry on. It's 2019; religion shouldn't be a barrier to the promotion of equality.
Just wanna say that being named "Nazia" must be kinda annoying sometimes
It's a public school (Or Private I guess they call them in the UK) People need to realize that in modern society everyone has to give a little lee way with everyone else. You can't have your way 100%, nor can anyone else. If the parents protest then let them take their kid out of the class, rather than get their way and stop the classes for all
I think they're referring to muslims as the minority, which is what the parents that protested are. I'd be surprised if they weren't in the minority.
fucking oof my bad Still, shit's fucking crazy.
Out of a capacity of 740 school children. 600 pupils did not attend out of protest to this from 400 parents. At least in this school, they are very much in the majority.
Hiya King George III
I agree 100% but in this case the school would be forced to shut down due to high volume of Muslim pupils protesting.
On Friday about 600 Muslim children, aged between four and 11, were withdrawn from the school for the day, parents said. Last month, the Guardian reported that the assistant headteacher of the school was forced to defend the lessons after 400 predominantly Muslim parents signed a petition calling for them to be dropped from the curriculum. So in summary it is mainly Muslims protesting. Parents have been protesting outside the Saltley school, which is rated as outstanding by Ofsted. At one protest they held signs that read “say no to promoting of homosexuality and LGBT ways of life to our children”, “stop exploiting children’s innocence”, and “education not indoctrination”. And they are taking a 'the kids are too young to learn about this' angle.
The most uncomfortable truth about all this, is that sit down with these parents and I would give a generous estimation that 90% of these parents would say members of the LGBT community deserve to receive the death sentence in an ideal world. I'm aware this reads like some ignorant boomer facebook post but the UK really is suffering from a return of Dark Age mentality through immigration. I have no idea how we can begin to bridge cultural gaps that span this large of a moral and ethical space. The UK government is trying to counter with a campaign promoting "British Values" of acceptance and tolerance of other cultures at the point of entry at the moment so at least they can't be faulted for not trying. I'm just not sure it's effective.
“education not indoctrination”. Biology teaches that man evolved from primates. Geology shows our world is millions of years old. Philosophy teaches that goodness is innate, and not given by some supernatural force. These parents draw the line between education and indoctrination wherever they feel like, while indoctrinating their kids into their own religion at the same time.
I certainly don't buy their 'kids are too young' reason. They would prefer if it wasn't taught at all, they just know that wouldn't go down well so they are taking a middle ground which has a chance of being heard in Parliament: Shabana Mahmood, the MP for Birmingham Ladywood, spoke out after parents in her constituency complained that primary schools were teaching their children about same-sex relationships. She said parents did not oppose sex and relationship education, but felt their children were too young for some of the things being taught.Speaking in a Commons debate, Mahmood said: “None of my constituents is seeking particular or differential opt-outs at secondary school level. It is all about the age appropriateness of conversations with young children in the context of religious backgrounds.”
Religious freedom means that you can't be discriminated against based on your religion. That's it. It doesn't mean that society has to cater to your whims just because they happen to be motivated by your religious beliefs.
In the UK, state school is free and public school is like your private. It is confusing.
Stop nicking British names yeh Burgerstani wankstains, come up with your own place names But yeah, they shouldn't be giving into this sorta shit, religion takes a back seat to the laws of the land
I'm pretty certain they said this targeting muslims / broadsiding brown people.
This is just as important as sex ed and shouldn't be stopped ffs
If they don't want to participate in civilized society, then maybe society should leave them behind, rather than pander to bigotry.
This is ridiculous. When it comes to being a parent, you have to stay openminded and acceptio I have always believed that when it comes to sex education, school children should be taught about romance, relationships and sexuality above all else, rather than how to put a condom on a banana.
