A24 has dropped the first trailer for Ari Aster's Midsommer and it looks incredible. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0UWIya-O0s I cannot wait for this film.
Hereditary is one of the greatest horror films ever made. Count me the fuck in
I'm up for bright and colorful horror movies
I was so underwhelmed and never actually scared by that film. It was hyped so hard, and it was so fucking sad compared to the hype.
Not enough surströmming to be accurate
It was always a family drama as much as a horror film. I'd call it "misery porn" if it wasn't so engaging.
See, I wouldn't call it a "horror film". If people hadn't told me "THIS IS LITERALLY THE SCARIEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME" a million fucking times, and hadn't been 100% serious about that opinion, I wouldn't dislike the movie as much as I do. It's an incredibly engaging and tense movie, well shot and well acted. But it's not a "Horror" film. If someone said "Hey this is the best family drama ever made" I would have gone in with different expectations. It would have largely fulfilled those of being a great family drama with horror elements. But it was sold as a Horror film. It's not. It's a wonderful movie, but it's not scary, it's not horrific, it's deeply unsettling. I guess this gets down to the definition of what a "Horror movie" is. And for me, Hereditary, whilst being a great movie, was not a horror movie. I was waiting to be scared, constantly. I wasn't, I was just deeply uneasy, and I really had to applaud the skill of the director in achieving that, and absolutely despised the marketers of the movie, and all the word of mouth I'd heard about it as well, presumably driven by PR taglines, for selling it as a straight "Horror film".
I disagree. i just think it's a different kind of horror and it really got under my skin. It's probably the only horror film I've seen as an adult that actually scared me The tension and uncomfortable setting just do not fucking let up the whole movie. I saw it in theaters 3 times and I hardly go see anything more than once anymore. I felt like I was watching a movie that would soon be considered a classic and I can't think of a single aspect about it that I didn't love with all my heart.
horror doesn't automatically mean scary dude. there's a lot of different kinds of horror, you just sound like someone who isn't into horror who has come to connect the term to scary
No, I’m a die hard horror fan, it’s one of my favourite genres. It was hyped to be the best movie ever. It wasn’t, even if it was very good. Theres a reason I said I was waiting to be scared, and it’s not because I don’t like horror films, it’s because I do that I want to be scared.
I don't remember the last time I was as disturbed watching a film as I was with Hereditary when Annie is convulsing on the floor after her daughter is killed and she screams "I JUST WANNA DIIIIIIIE". I grew up around a lot of mentally ill people and I heard shit like that from time to time and her acting was accurate as hell to the stuff I heard. Toni Collette was fucking robbed of an Oscar. I liked her even more than Olivia Colman in The Favourite and I love that movie.
I’ll watch it again to revisit it. I don’t mean to sound mean to the movie because it’s a good movie. It was just so hyped up that I was honestly let down by the hype.
certain psychological devices work for some people and not others, if it didn't work for you that's cool. but i thought there was some real genuinely frightening scenes. it's the same way i think It Follows is a masterpiece and other people think it's goofy and stupid (they are wrong). i guess the concept either gets you or it doesn't
I definitely felt it was a great movie and had some of the most tense scenes in it. But I definitely think it’s a bit overhyped, especially the end was terrible. and Idk why the party scene always bothered me like they were so in your face that the walnuts were gonna be in the cake, and make her have an allergic reaction it felt dumb.
I feel like this is one of those situations where sometimes trying to get people into something, that something is described very poorly and sets the new person up for something that isn't even what they were told about really. Like all those people that try to get their friends into Dark Souls and just talk about how it's THE HARDEST GAME EVER BRO IT'S SO HARD JUST TRY IT, when that's just a popular opinion stripped of any nuance and isn't even close to what makes [thing] special and interesting in the first place. But really, trying to hype someone up over something that isn't really even what you are describing it as happens a lot. Sucks because it can color a first impression completely differently than just experiencing it on your own.
this looks scary as fuck
It can't be called "Midsommar" if not "Små grodorna" or "Prästens lilla kråka" is sung
